Kimber Desert Warrior - just may be the best yet!

If you follow my posting, it should be obvious I'm a Kimber guy. I became one when a buddy laid a Kimber Ultra and a full mag on my shooting bench. I was quite impressed, so I bought a Kimber Pro Carry, I wanted front strap checkering so I traded some guns for a Tactical Pro. I had a hard time getting .45 ammo for a while and thought about what happened in the last Presidental election, so I traded some other guns for a Tactical Pro in 9mm. Then I saw a Super Carry Pro HD and traded again, then the big brother, the Super Carry Custom HD, and then another trade for a Kimber TLE/RL. They're all great - very accurate, easy to shoot, fun to shoot.

About two months ago I saw a Kimber Desert Warrior at Sportsman's Warehouse - I liked it. I did a lot of research; I looked at it a half a dozen times during that two monyhs. Finally I decided I'm old, why die without ever owning a Desert Warrior? So I scraped together the money and bought it. So, what do I think about it now that I've shot it? They say a picture is worth a thousand words, so here's 5,000 words:

    3" dot, 3 shots, off-hand, 15 yds - target 1. Well, there's that one that got away:

    3" dot, 3 shots, off-hand, 15 yds - target 2. One didn't get away this time:

Well, that could just be luck so here's the next target: 3" dot, 3 shots, off-hand, 15 yds - target 3 - 5/8" group dead center:

    I probably couldn't do that again, but I can do this: target 4 - 3" dot, 3 shots, off-hand, 15 yds:

And the fifth target, target 5, 3" dot, 3 shots, off-hand, 15 yds:

I've shot a lot of 1911s, S&W, SA, Colt, Gunsite Custom build, Kimbers, but I've never come close to this kind of accuracy. I admit that I'm a bit overwhelmed by the performance I got today. In one outing, I can't conclude it was all the gun, but it's the first time I've ever shot like this.

    Here's the gun:

I think that's about all that needs to be said.

Impressive groupings, that's what a nice 1911 will do for a good shooter. And that's a nice looking gun too, love the grip panels.
As we used to teach in the spook business, carry a 25 if it makes you feel good, but do not ever load it. If you load it you may shoot it. If you shoot it you may hit somebody, and if you hit somebody - and he finds out about it - he may be very angry with you. -- Jeff Cooper

I handled one at the local brick and mortar, it takes my breath away. if I
had to carry a 1911 that's the one I would get.

Yes, yes, it's very nice and you seem to shoot it very well.

But, can it clean itself? Pick up its own brass? And I didn't see a mirror for those over-the-shoulder shots - what gives?

Kimber often gets a bad rap. My Warrior, 15 yards, 28 quick doubles.

Well, hmmm, did I miss some accessories hidden in the case? Surely there's a brass picker upper.

    Hey! Over-the-shoulder shots! Gotta go!

LOL - you got it! You're observant - I wondered if anyone would pick up on what that was.

Actually it's illegal for me to carry an ASP in Tennessee. Funny isn't it, I can carry the gun, but not the baton!

    Good shooting!

I've always thought that Kimber has gotten a bad rap. I've been very pleased with the ones I own. Bought my first one in the mid 90's and the most recent one just last year. Still haven't had as much as a hiccup from them. Kimber was the first mass-produced 1911 to have what was considered custom features, and at a good price.
