Colt 1911 70 Series

At a gun show today, I was looking at a 70 series Colt 1911. The seller said the gun was 30 years old, and he was asking $735 for it. I've not been able to find any information on this particular gun Can anyone educate me?

If you Google or Bing; Colt Series 70, you will have a great deal of reading. :wink:

If it's in decent condition, that's a steal.

Got to agree with Coltman. Depending on it's condition, that's a very good deal. Jump on it.

Yip. Buy it. In 1974 my Dad paid $175 bucks for one at the local Western Auto store. Its mine now, Its completly stock except a dab of red nail polish on the front sight. Its had a fair amount of use & still runs great & still pretty darn accurate! Just normal cleaning & lube & changing the recoil spring from time to time.

one of the best colt 1911 made. price is good. i would jump on it.

I have one. Superb trigger. With the Model 80 Colt introduced the firing pin block and extra mechanisms in the trigger group. Almost no one could tune the Model 80 triggers to work as well as the Model 70 triggers. The Model 70 was the apex of Colt's 1911 manufacturing.

Well, guys, your advice was spot on. I returned to the show yesterday, cash in hand; the gun was gone. Not meant to be, I suppose.

Yep I knew it would not last long at that price!!! I bought a Gold Cup SS 70 series about 4 months ago and paid $1050...

From reading this thread, I'm guessing that the $550 I paid for my 1978 .45 Commander last year was a good buy? I had Robar plate it with NP3+ and it is now my EDC. And yes, the trigger on it is excellent!

Do you personally own a Model 80 tuned by this guy? If you do, what comparison do you make between a well-tuned Model 70's trigger and your Model 80's trigger tuned by this chap?
