S&W 3913 single stack 9. They go for more now than when they were new...if you can find one. I have a S&W 908 which is supposedly the "economy" version and it is my favorite. Reliability is unmatched.

While all of the above are sought after and discontinued,the question was most sought after not a personal preference.
Purchases of the consumers indicate surplus com block pistols in 32 acp and 9x18 mak.Most being copies of ppk a highly sought after pistol yet out of price range for many.
Clones are not limited to ppk but also of hipower ,beretta etc.all surplus due to 9x18 being replaced with 9 x 19.
Cheap ,affordable,and available.

Nickle plated 4 inch Colt Python, one of the prettiest pistols I ever saw and the best trigger pull on any revolver.

+1 on the S&W 3rd Generation pistols:
the S&W 3913, 3914, 3953 (DAO) are among the best ever made. Single stack 9mm: flat, thin, concealable, and dead-on-nuts accurate and dependable. Apparently S&W engineers and designers were about 20 years ahead of the industry!
