    Smith & Wesson M&P

Finally got around to go gun looking. I tried about every gun on display, I think the guy was getting annoyed, oh well. The one I liked the best was the S&W M&P. It just fit my hand perfect, seemed light enough if I eventually carried it, and the size wasn't all that bad either. There is no place around here that will rent guns apparently. Just wanted some input from experienced people first.

    Thanks

I am sure we had a useful thread on the M&P - no link to hand right now.

I had not seen one at all until recently we had an IDPA night shoot and got to looking at Dan Burwell's (member here) - I was favorably impressed with overall feel - I favor double stackers and large grips.

Didn't shoot it but respect his opinion and it does seem a nice gun.

I loved everything about the M&P until I actually shot it. Then I was sorely dissapointed. I got great accuracy in controlled slow fire, but once I tried to push it some I couldn't hit to my standards. There was a lot of muzzle flip, and I had trouble finding the sights for followup shots.

I've got an M&P in .40S&W and I'm very happy with it. It is not a match grade gun, but a very suitable combat handgun. It takes some adjustment for the .40 round. As Combat Effective mentioned, there is a lot of muzzle flip. A stiff wrist and good stance corrected this. I've been able to do some clean 3" - 5" groups in rapid fire. It'll take some practice to be able to do that as reliably as I can with my SA XD 9mm though. I've got a thread going on the M&P here:

Let me know if you have any specific questions.

    Good Luck pappy.

How is this to carry? Is this a fairly large gun for that? I thought it seemed an ok size to hide. Anyone carry this before, or a gun with same dimensions?

I carry this pistol every day, and love it.

The M&P recoil is very tolerable when a high grip is used, I can do controled rapid fire well. Saturday I was shooting steel at 20 yards and was able to drop all 6 steel in 3.67 seconds(no misses).

Just a FYI... Budsgunshop.com has them for $369 right now if anyone's interested! But I'm sure all the gun nuts on here have already seen that!
