    LCP .380 Jams

Just got the lcp. Have run about 250 rounds through it. At first it jammed about once in every clip. Now I've got it jamming almost every time I pull the trigger. I am using Winchester .95 grain ammo. Everything I read is nothing but praise for this weapon. Am I just fortunate to have purchased the only bad one?

Clean the gun and try some different ammo and see if the problem continues.

Yep - clean it, lube it, maybe run it a little more wet while it's new.

Be a little more specific about "jams." Do you get stovepipes? Failure to eject? Failure to feed? Is the problem isolated to just one magazine (you do have more than one magazine, right?)?

I get mostly failure to eject but also some stove piping. What does wet mean? I've seen that term but haven't looked it up.

Is it a new weapon? Did you clean it before firing the first time? That is what Ruger recommends.

OK, you can probably rule out mags if the problem occurs with all of them.

I think you have an extractor problem. Either an extremely weak extractor spring, or a broken extractor tip. Lower on the list of likely suspects would be a rough or burred chamber, but that problem would tend to get better with use, not worse. Hate to say it, but your LCP has to head to sick bay. Give Ruger a call and they'll likely send you a shipping tag to get the gun back for repair.

The officers don't carry the LCP in my town anymore because it doesn't cycle the issued gold dots very well. They switched over to the Taurus TCP and the officers like it better and it will run anything you put in the mag. The TCP has a better trigger also.

Have to agree with Gasmitty. Call Ruger - they'll make it right for you.
The more good folks carry guns, the fewer shots the crazies can get off.

A "better" trigger is purely subjective. Not trying to start a debate, but just stating a fact.

    Send it in to Ruger.

Mine ran just fine out of the box and was bone dry.

LEOs are carrying .380 pocket pistols?

As back-up pistols. Because they are so tiny. Before the Ruger LCP's came out, Kel-Tec P3AT's were pretty popular with our local highway patrol because they are very easy to pocket carry.

Several of our local police and deputies started carrying .380's as a BUG (who never carried a BUG before) because all the State Troopers liked them so much.

My wife and I both have Ruger LCP's and carry them as BUGS. As small and lightweight as they are, there's no reason not to have one on you at all times.

For the record, both our LCP's have run flawlessly with all the ammo we have tried in them. Which is about 6 or 7 different brands and loads.

I agree with everyone else. Get in touch with Ruger and let them fix it. I've owned 3 LCP's and still own two. I've never had any malfunctions in any of them.
