Interesting pistol: Star Model B
These pistols are once again available on the surplus market and are selling for around $300. I've had great luck with my sample and have found the pistol to feel quite familiar given it's relationship to the 1911. The pistols are all steel and most I've seen lately are WWII surplus firearms that have been refinished.

Something to buy and bury in the back yard for the crash. But, that trigger pull hinge is a deal killer as a every day shooter for me.
Noticed it shoots the cheap ammo without issues, so that's a good thing.

Interesting pistol: Star Model B
Thanks for the post, MA. That looks like something that I'd really enjoy having around. Although Aimpoint has already raised their price to $399. This will be one of those that I pounce on when it shows up in a pawn shop.

If it is anything like the Star Firestar M-43 9MM I have it is one solid pistol, glad to see more on the market.

I have access to one to shoot.
I really enjoy it, the ergonomics are about the same as the 1911, which is great to me.
Every time I shoot it, it makes me want to buy a 9mm 1911, the speed of follow up shots with the minimal recoil of the 9mm round is really fast.

They are fun guns, especially for the money.

good review as always. I wish Star of Spain were still with us. I have a Star Firstar M43 9mm and a Star Firestar Plus that were made back in the early 1990's. Great guns way ahead of their time.
Went to Aim Surplus, and the Stars are sold out.

I want one but can never find them. It seems that every time they show up I just emptied the gun budget and by the time I get a little money back in them they are gone. I keep an eye on aim for these, they were showing sold out a day or two ago which was the last time I looked.

Great little interesting clip. I like both the Star and the Astra. All steel gets my interest. Both have models that feature time-honored, straightforward, Browning derived designs. Some of Astra's designs were pretty novel and clever.
A Star BM currently lives here and it's a wonderful compact 9mm pistol with great shooting qualities. Really heavy for its size too which I actually prefer over aluminum alloy or plastic, being an eccentric sort of person.

Nice video and review of the pistol. If they were more left hand friendly I would want one.

Nice review as always!
You mentioned in passing that it's reliable...could you elaborate a little about that?
1911s have a reputation (fair or unfair) of being finicky...do the Star's design modifications eliminate some of common causes for hang-ups in the 1911?
Do you need to run it 'wet'? Is it picky with modern hollow-points? How about finish...they've been around a long time...rust prone?
And I couldn't tell whether the stock sights can be (easily) switched out?
Even at 400$ they would seem to be a great value.
