A training dilemma- which gun to take
I've got a bit of a dilemma which actually isn't too bad but I need some advice. I bought and carried a Sig P238 since August of 2011. It's actually a nice gun to shoot for its size and I'm pretty accurate with it as well. I've taken it to range enough times to pass its break-in period. Very reliable. Two months ago, I purchased a Kimber 1911 that I only intend to use for home protection because I like how easy it is to conceal the P238. I really enjoy shooting the heck out of the 1911 but I only carry the little Sig. I'm thinking about signing up for a training course and we're allowed to bring one firearm for this particular class. My question is: which one should I train with? Any advice is appreciated.

IMO, if the course is about competency with your carry weapon, then that's the one you should bring. In your case, most particularly because your newer weapon (a) is not your carry weapon and (b) is new. I'd go with the old tried-and-true platform.
Your best weapon is your brain. Don't leave home without it.

I'd take the Sig.
The good news is 99% of the drills will carry over to your 1911... since the 238 is essentially a mini 1911 without a grip safety.

Better question, do you have all the accessories for the 238 that you will need for the class?
Typically some classes require strong side holster, three mags, double mag carrier etc.

Yes, for both. This particular class requires one extra mag and a holster.

From my perspective I had the same dilemma for my MAG-40 class last month! I took my P30 which I don't normally train with or carry so I shot like I've never pick up a weapon before! Something about the unspoken peer pressure. Still qualified, but for me, I sucked wind!
Take what you carry and train with! JMHO!

I would have responded sooner, but I was busy over on Glock Talk when the thread began.

I'd take the Sig, just make sure to pick up your own snap caps etc. for the malfunction clearing if that's what they use as the provider may not have them for the .380. Might be worth emailing them etc. to be sure.
