Good catch DRM. I didn't even think about that possibility.

And yes, the RIA guns ship with ACT mags. Most seem to work well, but I've heard of a few problems with them.

If "sling-shotting" the rounds worked, then it should function well with actual live fire. Take a trip to the range and give it a good workout. If this works out well, then you're good to go. If it has problems, then that's the time to call customer service. Good luck!

I switched my mags to wilsons and havent had an isue since. My acts worked good for ball ammo though.

Actually QKShooter was on it first, I just clarified it a bit more. Here's what he said:

You should not be easing your slide forward to chamber a round from the magazine. Just in case you are doing that.

Your slide should go forward full force to strip the top cartridge out of the magazine.
That having been said - your extractor is most likely tensioned a bit too tight.

I had a similar problem with my Springfield. Worked out with time and Wilson mags.

As you try different ammo types - IF some brands of hollow points have trouble feeding then try a TRIPP Research Cobra Mag.
They position the bullet nose of the top cartridge in the magazine slightly higher and that slight angle difference seems to help some brands of hollow-points feed/chamber more effortlessly.

    See this photo below.
Tripp CobraMag side by side comparison to a typical 1911 magazine.
In the first set of pics on the left & looking down the bore from the muzzle you can see how the Cobra Mag nose is slightly higher up to hit the feed ramp and enter barrel chamber.
The second set of pictures is pretty obvious AKA looking into the ejection port the top cartridge on the right is positioned slightly higher up.

Bought some Chip Mccormick Custom magazines going to see if this helps feed better than the ACT mag.

    Lightbulb Cobra mags

I'll second QKShooter on the Cobra (Tripp) mags...

Virgil Tripp is a VERY smart guy. For those who don't know, Virgil Tripp, Sandy Strayer and Chip McCormick (2-Time World Speed Shooting Champion) pioneered the STI 2011 pistols.

Chip Magazines work like a dream i can slowly slide the slide foward and do the sling shot method and both work like a charm. Might invest in a third magazine sometime after christmas.
