My belief is 6 big holes trumps 8 smaller holes.

    compacity

Ill say, compacity because bc you have a greater chance to defend yourself if say you encounter multiple bg.... and 9mm isnt a small caliber to play around with, even though you lose some power but with great shot placement the .45 can be what you want, but ill still say compacity

Please, try to stick to the facts when debating me on a caliber war. Otherwise, the inevitable end to this thread will emerge sooner.

It depends really, where do you live? What are your threats? I have both, SIG P245 and a Glock 26, I carry whichever is needed for where I'm going. Urban anus, Glock, small town, P245, it's really that simple. I do prefer the 45 but have no issues with a properly loaded 9mm.

I chose to compromise and go the middle of the road. I think this is one of the reasons .40 has become more popular recently.

Phased Plasma Rifle in the 40 watt range?

Well, until those become available, I gotta stick with "just what I see, pal".

"Carry the largest caliber you can be effective with" is a phrase I heard a lot during my CPL course. As such I carry a .45 ACP most of the time, and my other carry gun is a revolver, so I guess I don't care too much about capacity.

I see the wisdom of your statement. I hereby change my belief to 8 smaller holes trumps 6 big holes.

I have to lean toward the capacity side of the equation. IMHO, I would rather risk the outside chance of only wounding three assailants with 9mm hits than killing two assailants with .45 hits...but then having no juice at all remaining for the third. Only HITS take someone out of the fight. Sometime hits aren't immediately fatal, but still can incapacitate the threat. A "click" can't do ANYTHING incapacitating.

All else being equal (including weight), I'd go with the large caliber. That said, remember the 9mm will be cheaper to shoot/practice with.

Eh - get a Glock 30...caliber AND capacity.

OP - I don't like the grip safety on the XDS, nor do I like the thumb safety on the Shield. So...my vote is "neither."

How about a nice reliable revolver, if you are going to go low capacity? maybe two of 'em?
The more good folks carry guns, the fewer shots the crazies can get off.
