I personally think the 9mm is a good compromise.
1. It is cheap, so you can practice more.
2. The right 9mm defensive ammo will do the job. Let me quote "Properly designed hollow-point ammunition - regardless of caliber - all perform very close to each other when you take expanded diameter and penetration depth (12 inches) into account."
See link below for more info.
Best Choices for Self Defense Ammo
3. Properly placed shots (more likely with training) count more than caliber. Let me quote "Physiologically, no caliber or bullet is certain to incapacitate any individual unless the brain is hit". See page 8 in the link below.

4. If you compare well with NYC police... they fire an average of 5.7 per incident. Your 9mm... should have you covered.

This is all from reading as much as I can (I have never been in a shooting incident)... if anyone has a good source please let me know.
I own two guns that are the same size in different calibers: a Glock 36 which is a .45 with 6+1 capacity and a XD40sc which is .40 with 9+1 capacity. I carry the one I shoot the best.
Sioux565 i still got 4 rounds left i dont need 7,10,15 round clip... If i need that many rounds to hit a target i might as well hang it up, liscence, gun, holster, and pride... Lol.
The 3 round avg pertains to all incidents involving discharge of firearm, not just gunfights so to speak, involving both parties having firearms.Could be a larger diff in number of rounds fired
Glock 21-- Caliber AND capacity. And a G30 as BUG.
My decision on this is to get the one that does NOT increase the variety of ammo I need to buy. My guns are .22, .380, .38, 9mm, 5.56 nato, 12ga.
That is enough different calibers. I don't want any more calibers. more guns? sure!
45...9...what's the difference? Exactly 36
Right now I'm in the capacity camp.
Hard choice. I'm looking at the same 2 guns with the same questions....But if I had the Xds I would have 2-3 extra mags. Doesn't that count as capacity?? Maybe not but it's still a hard choice.
I favor the gun with the most capaliber.
I'm still trying to figger out how to get more compacity in them there clips...
Interesting replies from everyone !!! Keep them coming :image035: God Bless
