what is the trigger like on it?
This is a discussion on Taurus PT140..very inaccurate within the Defensive Carry Guns forums, part of the Defensive Carry Discussions category; 500 rounds have gone through my Taurus PT140. 400 I shot and the other 100 have been by 4 other experienced shooters. None of us ...
500 rounds have gone through my Taurus PT140.
400 I shot and the other 100 have been by 4 other experienced shooters.
None of us can hit ****! I usually experience VERY low 12" groups at 25 feet...which is unacceptable for me. Two of the other guys weren't even hitting paper at 25 feet.
I'm normally a plus shot....having excellent groups at 50 feet with a Kahr PM9 and a Kimber 1911.
I'm going to play dumb......what's going on?!?!? POS gun?????
The Taurus PT140 is small, but with a 3 1/4" barrel you should be doing better than 12" groups at twenty-five feet. Perhaps it is the DAO and .40 cal recoil?
I've had a couple of opportunities to shoot the XD-9 SubCompact are our local range and I have been able to pull off 2-3" groups at thirty feet (10 yards) and the XD-9 SC only has a 3" barrel
Have your local gunsmith look at it. Perhaps there is something wrong with it that can be corrected.
Those who would give up Essential Liberty to purchase a little Temporary Safety, deserve neither Liberty nor Safety.
Also try different ammo weights.

ya....if five "good shooters" all had poor results i'm thinking it's the equipment. i'm going to get it checked out.
the trigger is a long pull and pretty rough..i'm not a fan...
If you think it is that bad you may want to send it back to Taurus it is under warranty I have had the PT 140 and have just bought the new 3ed generation PT 145 both shoot very well if you are not used to the DAO trigger that take some getting used to the new ones are single action and on a miss fire thay are DA.
Well good luck

mine shot good, its all the little complaints about the cracking of the frame and such that made me not trust it and got rid of it...
If you hang around gun chat forums for awhile, you read a tremendous number of postings by gun owners who bought a Taurus and had some serious problems with it. Even if you assume half of these people don't know what they are talking about, the other half probably are telling the truth.
Given this, I am surprised that anyone buys a Taurus.
wellll.....i'm not surprised at all that anyone buys Taurus. They market a low priced compact pistol that looks good too! Key words being low priced....Probably most of their buyers aren't knowledgable and don't hang around gun forums.
Don't get me wrong, I'm not defending Taurus and I'll probably never buy another one...
12" Low at 25' ~ That is much more than unacceptable.
That is downright worse than awful.
Have the days of complete lack of quality control by Taurus returned to haunt shooters yet again?
They were pretty doing good for a while there.
I have a very long memory though & because I still remember the old days I would still (to this very day) never buy any firearm with the Taurus name affixed to it.
I wouldn't return it for repair - I would either demand my money back or feed it to the lions or hit it hard with a sledge hammer and then go out and buy a decent firearm.
Well, I've taken my newly-purchased PT140 to the range for a couple days now and shot a couple hundred rounds. I'm reporting a different experience. It's accurate enough for me at distance I've tried (up to 25 feet). It feels good in my hands, it's a nice fit. I think it's fun to shoot.
It's my second Taurus (out of over 2 dozen firearms I own). I like it enough that I'm considering another Taurus as my next handgun purchase, either a Millenium Pro PT145 or PT745, both .45 caliber.
My pt 140 is shooting 5in. low at 7 yrs off the sand bag. Will be sending it in to Taurus for service.
Betweem me and my brother we have 4 and all are shooters they put out a good product but every company have duds even the high price customs. Contact taurus and talk to then it has been my experience that they will work eith you get it right.
".....VERY low 12" groups at 25 feet"
12" Low - changing ammo bullet weight is not going to make that much difference at only 25'
