    Walther PPS and Navy SEALs

According to a Jun 18, 2012 article in Defensive Review.com, US Navy SEAL Special Warfare operators have chosen the Walther PPS for concealed carry/covert operations. This is quite an endorsement as I believe these guys can pretty much have and get anything they want. I knew I made a good choice. (Kind of funny to note that a Smith and Wesson representative speaking in the same article said that well, if the Shield had been available then, the SEALs would probably have chosen that instead. Something about sour grapes comes to mind.)

I guess the Shields are so scarce that the Seals can't find one either.
Turn the election's in 2014 to a "2A Revolution". It will serve as a 1994 refresher not to "infringe" on our Second Amendment. We know who they are now.........SEND 'EM HOME. Our success in this will be proportional to how hard we work to make it happen.

That is quite an endorsement. Those guys do pretty much get what they want (as well they should). I know I love my PPS, but I'm not willing to subject it to the kind of testing that I would think they would want to put it through so they feel comfortable carrying it. Did the article mention if they did any extensive testing? Did they mention what caliber they chose?

Nevermind. I found the article. It looks like they're using the 9mm.

Yes, it a 9. As to testing, I presume they tested it as they would any perspective weapon.

Dunno how sour those grapes would be... the 9mm Walther PPS I recently held had "Smith & Wesson, Springfield MA" engraved on the slide :)

Yes, Walther is owned by S&W.

Smith and Wesson handles distribution and service in the U.S. They do not own Walther and they have no role in the manufacture of the PPS.

Wow, a bunch of guys that aren't known to be gun nuts, but instead usually just get weapons handed to them with no real input of their own is a huge endorsement.

Honestly guys, the weapons they use aren't impressive because of the weapons they are, but because of who is holding them. If they picked an NAA .22 it would likely work for them just fine. Make a choice about what is best for you, not for someone you have nothing in common with.

As Frank Costello quoted John Lennon in 'The Departed',

    Lennon said:
    "I'm an artist.
You give me a fricking tuba, I'll get you something out of it."

Most seals, if not all are indeed artists in their field. Weapons are tools, and some cherish their tools more than others. Give them any gun in your safe, and they will show you how to get the job done with it.

No, S&W is their U.S. distributor, they do not own Walther in any way, shape, or form.

To the OP: I too own a PPS and use it as my CC, so I know how you feel about being happy to have one. That much said I think the others have it spot on, the actual SEALs use what they are given regardless of their input. However I have to trust that they are given things based on some level of intelligent evaluation. Either way still gives me warm fuzzy feelings. :)

Absolutely correct. Walther pistols are manufactured in Germany, with the exception of the PPK and PPK/S-1 which are made by S&W here in Maine. S&W still makes a buck or two on the PPS sales to our .mil
