Gman and I were PMing a few days before I posted this because I wanted his loading data for his .38 carry load. I asked if it was +P and he confirmed that it was.

You dont want me shooting that 2" .38 at you at 100 yards.

I shoot at a B27 silhouette with one occasionaly. I dont do it with double action though, I'll jack the hammer and aim carefully.

I would ask any naysayer to stand in front of it if they dont beleive it...and I know that because most people cant do it themselves, they wont believe it.

Thats OK though.I've made them believe before.

I'm good out to about 15 yds max with my snubbie. I don't practice with it as much as I should since it's not really a fun gun to shoot. I do however enjoy shooting bigger revolvers but currently don't have one anymore.

7 to 10 yards with competency in da mode. I have and can usually make head shots at 25 yards firing single action. At least I used to. I've not practiced much with the J frame lately.

Anytime someone asks if my 442 is accurate. I always respond with "not so much with me shooting it, but this gun with the right person behind it can make hits at 100 yards". I actually, just about an hour ago said this to my mother when she was asking me about little guns not being accurate. I explained sight radius and that longer "helps", but it's mostly, just the finger that pulls the trigger.

I don't push mine beyond 15 yards. I should. I'll shoot it this weekend.

With the snub, it's hard to get anything over 800-850 fps without being able to special blend powders like Buffalo Bore or DT do.

But, the beautiful thing about the lswc bullet is it's ability to penetrate at low velocities.

As HotGuns alluded to, 100 yards is a do-able shot. But even at that distance, with the bullet speed dropping to less than 700 fps, I can pretty much be assured of bullet penetration adequate to drive to vital areas.

I know you all get tired of my preaching the gospel of the lswc, but it's an honest to God all round good design with no real limiting factors. A full caliber hole drilled wherever it hits, and the same results everytime regardless of velocity.

There's a reason it and the snubby go together.

Got a cite for that "fact"? Always under the impression they were designed for ease of concealment and comfort of carrying. Probably shouldn't limit a tool's usefulness to your personal capabilities with it.

I can do this with an ancient Model 36 that has the 1/10th inch sights.

Re: Effective combat range of a snub nose revolver

I can bounce a .38 bullet off the broadside of a barn if it's within range but that won't qualify as effective.

Past 10 paces or so on paper plate or smaller sized targets my shots take too long so I have no idea.

Effective combat range of a snub nose revolver

    7 to 10 yards is a good range I usually practice at 7 to 10 yards with a 649 or a 36.

Point blank. I SUCK with a snubby.
