They have similar actions and are from the same mfg (presumably the same quality). So it comes down to capacity, your ability to shoot them well, and your comfort with carrying more size/weight.

I assume you are referring to a P250 subcompact, which I find a very manageable size/weight for conventional or appendix carry. In conventional carry one really good combination is the compact slide with the subcompact grip frame. The longer slide anchors the gun better and allows for a slightly higher carry at ~3:30.

My CC is a 250 subcompact in 40 cal. Although I have lighter, thinner guns for carry I find myself liking the 250 most.

Someone on the Sig forum a while back wrote up a comparison of the two, and his conclusion was the 290 had a much better trigger, and was a higher quality gun overall.
