I voted Wilson Bud - much as anything because three years ago at a MD shoot in Timoneum - I fondled and tried another shooter's Wilson - it nearly gave me the flutters it was so darned nice
I would otherwise vote Baer tho I think.
All this from someone who is far from 1911 savvy compared to you and many others.

I voted Les Baer because, well, it's a Les Baer! Kinda always wanted one but the funds were never there....
Nighthawks seem nice but oh, the price!
Wilsons are nice too.
But I guess what I liked about the Les Baers are they are not delivered with lots of flash and adverts, just really top end performance.
Of course if someone was to give me any one of these I'd really owe them some favors, that is after getting off the floor from fainting

I've always wanted an Ed Brown, although I agree that all listed are fine makes anyone would want...don't see how you could go wrong with any of them (why not get them all? ).

Geez Bud, you probably know more about em than most of us here. Heck I am happy with my lowly SA loaded.

I voted for the Nighthawk and the blind hope you can find it for $2gs. Had a Les Baer Concept II, and it was a great and accurate gun, and never malfunctioned. I usually bond with a gun, and it never happened with that 1911. Yes, I sold it to a friend. I know it was just me, and you would love a Les Baer; you'd love the Nighthawk better...

I voted Wilson assuming you are wanting a carry piece. If going 5" I'd go Brown or Baer. I like the Special Forces model with Brown and the Kobra is hard to beat for fit and finish. Les Baer's are great for the money but the grips are not good IMO for a higher end piece and even though they work and work well for the most part, I believe they are to tight for a carry piece if not well broken in a couple thousand rds.
Nighthawks are very cool but if buying new I think the base GRP @ 2,195.00 is about the only one even close to your 2K range and really it depends on what you want or what your looking for in this handgun.
Good luck man, this is a nice problem to have for sure.
You could always save a bit longer and just get the one you desire and you are looking at the hardest but is more than you have available in fund's. 2-5 hundred more and you are in Nighthawk range and or just about anything else too.
Train and train hard, you might not get a second chance to make a first impression!

I voted Nighthawk. Not sure you will find one for under $2000 but what is another couple of hundred bucks to get what you really want. It's something you will likely cherish for a lifetime and hand down for generations. IMO Nighthawk is building the nicest 1911's around. Either that or I would have Yost Bonitz do a true custom job on a series 70 Colt.
