If I'm not mistaken, that particular part of the 1911 is called the mainspring housing, and can be change by a competent gunsmith. Brownells stocks quite a few with different feels to them, even blank (smooth) Check them out here: http://www.brownells.com/aspx/NS/sto...SPRING+HOUSING
if you can't find what you need there just google "1911 mainspring housing", and you should be able to find several manufacturers of this part.
Hope this helps!

You could look into SMITH & ALEXANDER, INC also, they offer smooth MSHs.

Or by a monkey with a drift punch
seriously that part can be changed in about 2 minutes. All you have to do is remove the pin, take of the old one put on the new one and replace the pin. You can get smooth ones, snakeskin ones, 20lpi, 30lpi etc...

Getting it out is the easy part. Punching it back in is a PITA.
Also my wife had a problem with a 1911 but it was the grip saftey (not hammer bite). Her hand would get pinched between the saftey and the grip. I put in a drop in beaver tail and she's fine.

grip safeties are hard (never done one) but trading out MSH are super easy in my experience, was there something wrong with yours maybe?

Even though the beaver tail was a "drop in" I had to take it to a Gunsmith (manual saftey would not work). If something is wrong its the MSH pin just a pain to get back in even with a different MSH.

The first MSH swap I ever did took me 5 minutes at most. Could not be any easier.
