KT loaded with 9 shots of 124grn. +p federal HST/Gold Dot

    OR

642/442 laoded with 5 rounds of 135 grn. +P short Barrel GD.

Your choice, but I would ALMOST sway toward the KT once proven reliable ,if you think your given carry scenario would warrant the larger amount of rounds.
I have a KT P11 and a 442 and they are virtually the same size, with the KT loaded weighing just a bit heavier, so a PF9 will be a bit less.

I have both because they've yet to create a perfect gun for every situation. The kel tec is usually easier to carry but sometimes the 642 hides easier due to not giving the look of a brick in your pocket.

I have both the PF9 and a smith 642. They both have their place in ways I carry. Sometimes I have the PF9 on in a OWB holster and the 642 in either a pocket holster or on an ankle rig. I like both and are in my carry rotation with my other weapons that r a smith model 65 4 inch round butt and the glock 27.. All I need.

Either one. I have both, and both have their place.

You, living in the south, are going to find that the PF9 will require more maintenance. When they are sweated on constantly they require disassembly and oiling to keep the rust off of them. The 642 will be easier to maintain when carried under the same conditions. That isn't to say the 642 can't rust or that you can ignore regular inspection and cleaning, it will just require less.

If you can find and shoot both, I would go with whichever one you shoot better and feel is easier to conceal in whatever manner you plan on carrying.
Just remember that shot placement is much more important with what you carry than how big a bang you get with each trigger pull.

Well there is one more choice. I just found out I can buy a glock at LE ,EMS discount. 26,19. Wow I hate choices. My main clothes is slacks and tucked polo. Got be able to conceal.

Carrying the pf9 iwb in a sticky holster currently around 3-4 o clock and you cant even feel it there most of the time and you definitely cant see it. Carrying hornaday critical defense in it with an extra mag in my pocket right now.

I've never shot a 642 but if it shoots anything like an LCR I'd go with the snubby over less accurate, for me anyway, PF9

Maybe it was just me but the 642 recoil was more than I could take and traded it + $ for a Sig P230C.
BUT ... I missed that light weight in my pocket and bought the LCR .38Sp with XS sights that became
my EDC. Much better all around gun in my opinion. Yeah I hear you ... that sharp recoil won't matter in
an encounter with the BG, I like to shoot at the range and it does matter there, not fun.

The Sig is the HD preference for now.

as a guy that got both i would go with the s&w first. the pf9 is a good gun, but most of them take a little work to make them run 100%. it is hard to beat a wheel gun that works no matter what.
