If I was in Korea or WWII I would have wanted the Garand. I just enjoy the Carbine. It is like shooting a ruger 10/22 compared to the Garand. ( you can shoot it all day and ammo is cheaper) No question on the range. We shoot 100 yards in the Carbine match and 200 yards in the Garand and Springfield matches. They will let you shoot the carbine in the Garand Match but the group is not pretty at the 200 yard mark.

Yes ol' chap, I often EDC a .455 Webley Mk VI. After my cricket match on the way to afternoon tea I find it quite the sterling & steadfast companion. Pip Pip and Cheerio old Bean.

(*sorry mates, it was just the oddest caliber I could think to...lie about! )

None of my carry calibers are odd, they're all pure genius! And anyone who thinks differently is a chuckle-headed, hamster-brained, know-nothing!

I have an RIA 1911 in .38 Super and an EAA Witness in 10mm, I tend to use these for "home defense" instead of carry. In my circle of friends who are also shooters one lady uses a couple of .327 Federal Magnum revolvers, a Charter Arms Patriot and a Smith & Wesson, her previous carry gun having been a Police Positive in .32 Police.

Nothing in pistol but I do have a M1 30 Carbine. The only bad thing about "non-popular" ammunition is the cost.

I have a young friend who's into old guns and carries a CZ vz. 52 in 7.62 x 25 Tokarev.

I've never fired the tok but heard great things mostly about the accuracy and high velocity I'm kinda a speed freak I guess was looking at a 9x25 dillon kit for my 20 but the cost of dies is keeping me away right now

    9mm MAK
    9mm Largo
    30 luger
    38 S&W
    44 40
    and Tokarev in pistol rounds

    17HMR [ not that uncommon]
    17Mach2
    22 Hornet
    17 Hornet
    17 Remington
    6.5x55 mauser
and 45 120 in rifle rounds

None of these are really odd calibers but just not seen at the range every day. DR

    Being a fan of auto-loaders I would prefer a Webly/Fosbery instead.

    I'm carrying a 10mm these days - 165 grain Gold Dot + 1400 fps = 750 fpe - pretty impressive numbers. I like it.

.38 super but it takes a back seat to the .45 ACP. Carried a 2 shot .44 mag derringer as a back up in my other life - then I shot it and went to .44 special. Bullets from both tumbled at 15 feet, the muzzle blast close in would have been horrible.
