Rethinking my carry guns

I have had several 29's and 629 over the years and kicked myself for getting rid of my last snubby. There is something about bigbore snubbies.... I have other 44 mags and have been reloading for it for about 20 years. Been carrying semi auto's since 1996. I shoot IDPA regularly and I also think it would be a fun addition to that endeavor.

Hey Gman, I do shoot 38's in my 357's for IDPA, does that count?:image035:

Absolutely - In 28 years of LE, my fastest reload was a second gun!

Pretty much why I carry a SP101 in 357mag.

Yup, that is the purpose of the 640 Pro.

The "King of the Hill" (~96% one shot stops according to FBI stats) in LE .357 magnums is attributed to the lighter bullet-weight loads (ie: 125 grain JHP). While I don't disagree with any of your revolver inclinations, I certainly don't feel "mouse-gunned" with a .357 sig pushing the same velocity as those well-respected magnums. Strangely enough, the same FBI stats show a counter-intuitive drop in effectiveness with larger/heavier revolver calibers. Why? I have no idea.

I also like the 357 Sig. The FBI stats are strange critters, they really don't tell you much. Where were they hit with what bullet and what did they then do. Just like hunting, you need to match the bullet to the critter. For SD I want something that has a light jacket and get explosive expansion with enough mass to penetrate deep enough, a good example is the Remington 180 grain JHP.

Are there any/many documented cases of a non-LEO needing a reload (more shots) in a civilian self-defense situation? I suspect it is extremely rare.

I prefer a revolver in .357 as my main carry and I can shoot my S&W 65 better than any other carry gun that I own.

Keep the Glocks and carry that Smith. The revolver in well-practiced hands is a fight-stopper that requires no apologies. Anyway, there's something about a wheel-gun!

Making a S&W 629 a carry gun sounds like a fun experiment too me!

I have been carrying a P3AT in my pocket for years and in my carry bag that stays in my car I have a P229 Sig in 357. Sometimes in cold weather I CC a Glock 27. As times are changing I am thinking about putting my 1076 10mm S&W in my bag instead of the P229.

yeah, I rethink my carry guns about once a week. Normal EDC is either a Glock 19 or 26......variety is the spice of life.

That is my plan. I carried a wheel gun for about 13 years and a semi auto for 20....yikes.... Am I that old????????
