Yes some people do..
Chopping will give you the longer sight radius , add weight for recoil management for faster and more accurate follow up shots. Add a full mag with a grip sleeve and you are back to a full size gun.

Did capacity chop from full size to compact? Does the grip sleeve give optional capacity to either that of the compact magazine or the full size magazine (with grip sleeve)? Why not, depending on the caliber, it's 12 (compact mag) or 17 (full size mag) in 9mm, 10 or 15 in .40 or .357 sig., and 8 or 10 in .45? All caps +1.

Yes you can use the compact mag with the capacity of a compact or use a full size high cap with the grip sleeve to fill the grip void.
