Thinking..Cerakote for my OM
Once I get my Dillion Square Deal up and running, I have only one thing gun-wise I'm thinking of doing. Don't panic..I know this will pass(the "one thing"thing). I WOULD LIKE TO HAVE MY 1ST YEAR PRODUCTION OM receive a nice black CERAKOTE finish. What price range am I dealing with? Any concerns with doing this etc? Thanks guys!

Well,
1) Most of the posters on the board are probably too young to have any idea what you're talking about.
2) Your description is a little vague. Are you talking a Blackhawk, or a Single-Six?
3) It's a Defensive Carry board, not antiques & collectibles. If your EDC is an OM, I suggest you find something better <G>.
4) I'm no expert, but I believe you would crater the collector value of the gun if you refinish it.
FWIW

Jim

I'm not sure what an "OM" is - Officer's Model, maybe? - but I probably wouldn't put a rattle-can finish on it. Blue or chrome all the way, in my book.

OOOPPS!! .....YES, it's a COLT Officer's Model 45ACP. How I forgot to write Colt is beyond me. SORRY!

Jim: My mistake, I was talking about my COLT Officer's Model. Sorry about the confusion!

Cerakote is a phenomenal finish. Just make certain that you find somebody that will do the job right.
I always say - if you have a firearm and you love it and you're planning on holding onto it then customize it and get it done up the way you want it.

My LWRC M6 is Cerakoted, very durable, still looks new other than the shell deflector which after many rounds has a barely perceptible mark.

My mistake, too - I thought you were referring to an "Old Model" Blackhawk or Single-Six!
BTW - Never heard Cerakote referred to as a "rattle-can finish"!

My generic term for any spray applied finish, i.e. not a surface treatment or plating. In general I'm not a fan, I don't think they look as good as a blued or chrome/nickel plated gun, and with one exception, I don't think they're very durable.
I have a Dan Wesson with Cerakote and it has worn very quickly over sharp edges.
I have a Painted Ordnance P12 LTD that scratches if you look at it funny.
CZ's polycoat seems to be the exception for durability, but I still don't think it looks particularly good.
Just my opinion - YMMV.
