...my favorite pistols have been Ruger early P models...very reliable and inexpensive...decockers preferred...if I couldn't find one in stainless in .40, then I'd go with Sig...the newer Rugers I don't like...you could likely find one around $400...they've run higher than the .45 and 9mm in my area because they're scarcer...

While Ruger makes a good quality gun, it isn't in the same class as a Sig. Go Sig.

I highly recommend both, but keeping it on topic, I would go with Ruger.

Sigs were probably my favorite brand in the past 20 years. Cant say anything bad about them. very reliable and a nice piece of workmanship. If price is not the issue, go Sig for sure.

I like my ruger double action revolvers. But in a semi I'd go with a Sig in a heartbeat. I've looked at a couple of Sigs recently myself.

I own the SR9c, and love it to death. I have shot the Sig and it was amazing. So that would be a tough call for me. Can you get both, lol!

I've had both and don't like them, I'd take a SIG anyday over either of the wonder guns that so many worship.

I have the Sig SP2022 and I can't say enough good things about it. One of the best value buys you can get in a firearm, I think.

    Ruger vs Sig?

SIG and Ruger are my go to handguns. There are many fine firearms out there and I don't have anything against them. But I just have a preference for SIG and Ruger. Now to pick between the two becomes difficult. Usually Ruger has a price advantage. But with the polymer frame Sigs, that becomes less significant. Given all else is equal, I say SIG.

I'd go with SIG as well since I feel more comfortable with a hammer strike pistol. BUT, I will bring up one thing with SIG P2022 - it only comes with one magazine and they are expensive. Also, the trigger on the 2022 is a bit different than other SIG triggers. Not sure why they do that. The trigger will go ALL THE WAY to the back before the hammer drop. Do practice with the pad of the finger tip to pull the trigger. Some experience issue when pulling with the middle of the finger because you can't pull the trigger all the way back to drop the hammer.

Sig, but also consider the P226 in 40S&W.
