I would not trust a .410 out of a barrel that short. IIRC, the folks over at Theboxotruth did some tests of the .410 out of a Judge revolver, and the results were mediocre.

Why would you not get something else? Like a 7 shot LCP, or a snubbie, or...anything else besides a derringer?

The more good folks carry guns, the fewer shots the crazies can get off.

I have everything else - been wanting a Bond Arms Derringer for a long time - just trying to decide which one.

...why not get a .44? with .44 Special Gold Dots(Blazer) you'd ding 'em good...and it'd be easier on your end than a .357 or .45 Colt...

I would never bring a knife to a gun fight but I will gladly pack my edge weapon over a derringer. Those things are generally more dangerous to the owners.

My SO and I have a "brace" of Bond derringers. I believe a derringer is a required accessory for poker players. ;)

The only problem is they are heavy and not so easy to conceal... but someday the great grand kids will have a cool set of derringers. :)

We have the 45LC/410 and the .357 versions (cowboy and bond girl).

IMHO the derringer barrel is minimally sufficient to build enough pressure with the .410, however it will blow holes through 3/4 plywood at about 5 feet using the PDX disc round. So it's probably good enough for government work. The 45LC will put some hurt on anybody who gets in its way at derringer distances, as will the .357 I'm sure.

The 45LC version is surprisingly easy on recoil, not much different than .38s. I've never had the chance (make that guts) to fire the .357, but I suspect you should hang on tight. :)

It's not a 6" revolver, so don't expect the same results.

For actual self defense I'd carry a small 9mm, same size, more bullets.

But you gotta admit, a lady with a derringer, that's classy. :) :)

The police are not there to protect you from crime, they are there to arrest the guy after the crime has been committed, assuming they find him. It is your responsibility to protect yourself and your family.

As a Great Wise Man once Said
"Im reachn for my derringah the first time stare atcha"

not realy..but it was in a rap song..ha
Anyways Derringers can be dangerous, If not treated or used properly..And some over others have a safety/safety features..
Theres a certain way u load them to I heard n steps u take specfically..
But If done right is just fine..
Still not the safest and shooting one is like a staple gun I hear..
Just not the most practical..nor greatest aimer...at all
But Its called the Close Range Special
    there wicked..And pack a Blasttttt
    And look awesome

Oh and to you who said youd bring a knife to a derringer fight...
    Smart move..

    Not...

I'd get the .45 Colt - or a .45 Auto Rim if they had one. Buffalo Bore makes some wadcutter self defense loads that would be my pick. I imagine extraction would be easier with the rimmed cartridges.

I just purchased a Bond. Federal makes a copper plated 000 4 pellet buck shell. 18 inches of penetration in gelatin and a tight group. You can't match that with a 45ACP. I might suggest 45 Schofield for the second barrel. 180 or 230 grains soft lead.

...do the buckshot statistics on penetration come from tests on the Bond or a regular length shotgun barrel?
