My EDC is a SR40c. It is easy to conceal, light weight, accurate, and the recoil is not an issue for me. Now if I could just find some ammo for it..

Over the years, Ive had 9mm, 40, 45, 380, 38, 357, etc...Its all a matter of preference and what you get used to. I've poured over the FBI stats on round penetration, gelatin images, and a dozen other things that only confused me more. Personally, I like the idea that I can carry 12 rounds of 40 (Winchester PDX1) in my EDC Springfield XD40-SC. Small 3" barrel and an easy gun to hide. I know that 9mm's can carry more and 45 can make a bigger hole, but for me 40 has the perfect mix of knock down power and round capacity. Its only snappy until you get used to it. Then its very sweet. I loove mine so much I bought 4 of the same model!

If they pass a ten round mag limit ill switch from 9mm to .40. I'd already have one if I had a larger gun fund.

One of the great things about the M&P is how easy, cheap a caliber conversion is. I have 2 M&P 40C for EDC. They both have 9mm barrels (midway) $70. Simple barrel change and now I can carry what I like or what's available in a SHTF situation. As of now I primarily carry 9mm as my follow up speed and accuracy is better. I have 14,000 rounds of .40 to tame the beast at the range with. I hope to carry a 9mm and 40 in the future. In CA I'm limited to 10 rounds anyway so the .40C fills my needs nicely.

I carry a XD40sc a lot and then change to my Sig P250 when the mood arises. Sometimes I switch to my XD9sc, but that is usually my home defense pistol.

I would pick .40 over 9mm based on ballistics...

I own three .40s and have carried one quite a bit - an older Glock 23 shown below. I like .40 because of the impressive ballistic performance and the high capacity possible in some guns chambered in .40. The Glock 23 is a good example of a pretty lightweight, compact gun with a capacity of 13+1 rounds. I don't mind the recoil of .40 so that does not influence my opinion. I have also read good things about the ability of .40 to stop an attacker quickly.

    I switched from a .40 to a .45 (1911) - thinner profile.

I carry a GLOCK 22 in the winter and a Springfield Armory XD.40sc in the summer. I love my .40s.

I have both the 9mm and .40 Shields but carry the .40 daily. I got the .40 first and the 9mm a month or so later. Guess I got used to the .40 and prefer it as I rarely shoot the 9mm at all. Will probably give the 9mm to my wife. If I could open carry here I would probably carry my full size M&P 40.

I'd carry one. Nothing wrong with .40.

    I carry a 9MM or a 45 ACP. I own a couple of 40s but prefer the 45 or the 9MM.

The up side that I can see with the 40 is the ammo prices and availability
