I carry a .40 in my PPQ and find it to be perfectly manageable. I go heavy-for-caliber with Speer Gold Dots which also helps the felt recoil a bit, but still maintains good velocity. Around here 9mm and .40 are starting to get pretty similar in price for range ammo, and .40 is more plentiful with all the ammo panic buying.

I also feel the .40 straddles the capacity vs caliber balance nicely, I have 12+1, which is less than the 15+1 the 9mm offers, but comfortably more than a lot of 45s. I've practiced a lot with the .40 and can place follow up shots well, so I'm confident in my carrying it.

Regardless of what you purchase, practice and drills will make the biggest impact.

    I carry a PPS .40. I sometimes carry a single stack .45. I won't carry a 9mm unless it is a double stack. Those BG's seem to absorb lots of 9mm rounds.

Because rule 21 of the Marine Corps Rules for Gunfighting states:
    21. Do not attend a gunfight with a handgun, the caliber of which does not start with a “4.”

My Primary EDC is a Springfield XD40subcompact. I have three 12 round mags and five 9 round mags. Great shooter, great trigger, and I have achieved great accuracy and speed with it. It fits my hand perfectly and I love the sights. One of the few guns that I shot dead eyes with from the first time I shot it. Why 40? Because I already had similar size 9mms and I wanted something with a little more umph. I also have a G36 in .45, and I shoot the XD40sc much better and it has more capacity. So, that's where I have settled in and gotten real comfortable. I don't find the recoil to be noticeably more than my similar sized 9mms.

    Nothing against a .40, but i already have .38, .357, 9mm, and .45 for potential carry guns.
I still prefer the .45 (I think it's a bet less 'snappy' than the .40 IMHO).

If I want to use that caliber bullet, I much prefer 10mm. Glock 20 and 29 are my choice. 40 is a fine load, just a little watered down! Looking forward to exchanging my G20 Gen 3 for a Gen 4!

I love my Glock 23 & 27. I don't mind the extra snap and the 23 is nice beside the bed with the GTL 21 laser/light combo. The 27 is great for concealment. An added bonus is I can almost always find .40 anytime I need it.

Love that i can make a bigger hole and still have the smaller frame for CC. Would never go back to the XD-9 though i'm really looking forward to trying out the .357 Sig barrel.

I don't really notice the snap too much. But you know what they say... If it snaps on your end...

Glock 27 usually isn't that far away from me.

I have other glock 40s at home, and its nice that the magazines are compatible.
