I actually had the option to buy a gen 3 or gen 4 M23 last week. I chose the gen 3 because for the same price, I bought the gen 3 with night sights. Thought it was an awesome deal.

ya and there really no big differences. The Gen4 is just ambidextrous, has roughter grip which most fine Talon Grips to be better anyway and a slightly bigger mag release. The dual recoil spring has been in the sub compacts anyway.

I like the Gen4 for the larger mag release alone, and only slightly more over the Gen3 for the grips. I think either would be a good risk. I like the idea of the Gen3 + night sights for the same $$$ as a basic Gen4 - good point.

I like the gen 3 over the 4
I got mine last year in the $400.00 range ( brand new on sale) extra mags were $29.00 so I got several for each glock that I own.
I don't know if I would purchase a glock today for over $550 range.
Fast is fine, but accuracy is everything.
