Consumer acceptance of molded plastic as a material suitable for firearms construction, along with the acceptance of the double-action-only trigger, are two major changes that have been observed over the past 20-25 years and valid features these are.
I'm grateful I don't have to own and use such handguns.
I guess you are about 4 years older than me. I joined the military in 1957. I did not need to buy guns or ammo anywhere because my father had many rifles and pistols. He purchased ammo as fast as I could shoot it, always had thousands of rounds of various calibers.
My father was born in 53 and tells me all kinds of stories about him and his brothers going out and blowing stuff up with dynamite and various other explosive chemicals and compounds that they bought at the hardware store when they were young.
20years ago I was 20 and dating my wife of now 18 years. IMHO the only real improvement I see are the internet so we can research things easier and have forums like these to learn from. Almost 20 years ago I bought my first hand gun, a .357. Twenty years latert he .357 is still my favorite caliber. Tenty yeras later I have 4 wonderful kids 5,10,13, 16. But I do remember in the 80's as a kid I would spend afternoons after school shooting my pellet rifle for hours in the side yard. We didnt live in the country we lived in Louisville Ky in a trailer park. No one thought anything of it. Its just what kids did. Yep alot has changed in 20 years but I'm not so sure for the best.
I think the biggest changes over the last 20 years have been 1) a near universal adoption of "shall issue" concealed pistol permits and 2) half the country now suckling at the teat of government. 1) is our last line of defense against 2).
Biggest (+): I converted to Glock
Biggest (-): The election and re-election of Barrack Obama
To me the biggest change is the holsters we have to choose from. Back then I only had 4 or 5 holsters in the box. And now with all the choices I have three full boxes of holsters I don't use.
20 years ago I was impressive, young and aggressive. Savin the world on my own. Now I've settled down to focus on my raising my kids and preparing them for this crazy world we live in.
