Glock 19 slide issue
A couple of weeks ago I picked up a new Glock 19 Gen 3. I took it to the range for the first time today and noticed that it does something that neither of my Glock 23's do. When the slide is back and locked, if I insert the loaded mag too hard or fast, the slide automatically slides forward and puts the gun in battery.
Is this normal?

Sometimes in life you have to stand your ground. It's a hard lesson to learn and even most adults don't get it, but in the end only I can be responsible for my life. If faced with any type of adversity, only I can overcome it. Waiting for someone else to take responsibility is a long fruitless wait.

I don't think that's normal. I have slammed some in fairly hard and fast (no wisecracks please) and I can't say that's ever happened to me. I have a gen 4 though, so I guess it's a red apple and a green apple comparison.
Any chance you have some pressure on the slide stop with your grip hand and that's causing it to drop once the mag is inserted?

I don't think that is normal but I will test on on my gen 3 G19 when I get home.

Mine will do that from time to time. It doesn't concern me.

TX, You get a free pass this one time.
That's not "uncommon." My G30 will do that if I insert a mag with "authority." It's called inertia--jarring the slide stop off.

I don't own a 19 but tried it with the 23 and it did not do it at least in two attempts.

Some will do it, some won't do it. There's nothing wrong. It's not just Glock, it's a possibility with any semi.

I guess I'm just not as vigorous as you are!
Ok, I tried it and it seems I could make it happen; however I think I may have pulled my back and hamstring in the process. I'm not as young as I used to be.

Any Glock I have ever fired can be forced to drop the slide if I bang hard on the bottom backside of the grip near the magwell. Not all the time will it happen, but I can force it if I really tried.

All three of the Glock 19 gen 3s I have shot have done this with a good slap on the bottom of the mag upon insertion. I would say it is not uncommon.
Been calling it like I see it since 1988 and I don't plan on stopping anytime soon.

I made sure that I was making no contact with the slide stop at all when inserting the mag.
Thanks for the replies guys.

My G19, M&P 45, and M&P 9c all do that. If you just insert the mag gently, they don't. If you slam the mag home they all release. I actually kind of like it. One less thing to worry about if you ever have to reload.

I know more than a few people who thought that it would be good to have happen. But in IDPA matches I've seen it NOT happen when they wanted it to and were counting on it. Screwed them all up.
I also know SLAMMING it in TOO HARD can cause a round to come out of the magazine and jam the gun. Been there, seen it.
