Thinking about my first custom revolver, What do you think of Gemini Customs?
Here is what the package includes for $379
- Complete Action Tuning
- Crown Barrel
- Chamfer Cylinder Throats
- Recontour & Polish Trigger
- Dehorn for Carry
- Eliminate Cylinder Endshake
- Replace all Springs
- Polish all Plungers and Pins
- Bead Blast entire Revolver
- Test Fire
I would also add the following
-BCA Rough Country Rear Sight
-Gemini Customs Fiber Optic Sight
That would bring the total up to about $579, +shipping-Quite a bit of cash.
I'm a little worried about the bead blast finish and how it will wear with use
Or should I just get a good trigger job done by a local smith and call it a day?
Thanks,
Clay

IM not an expert, but bead blasting is a mechanical surface treatment, not a coating. I would expect it to wear the same as the metal prior to bead blasting, but if it contacts a material harder than the metal it will scratch.( I am not metallurgist) I have never owned a bead blasted firearm, but I think they look awesome. It should be fairly inexpensive to have done / redone if necessary. also being uncoated I would think it would also have the same characteristics for rusting as well. Just my .02

Yes, not a coating, but I'm wondering if it's prone to polishing on contact points with a holster.

very durable over time will show wear marks but can rub those out, you can call gemini an talk to mark he is very approachable the girl on the phone is great I always forget her name but great to deal with, one thing I can tell you if you do not like your gun for any reason you can post it on gunsamerica an sell it in a couple of hours at the longest for more than you will have in it.

Two thoughts.....actually three. One, I LOVE Custom guns, Two, Gemini has a stellar reputation, (if I was a Ruger guy, they would have my business) and Three, if you have a custom gun built and want to actually "use it", it will show wear.....It is the compromise between the dream of custom hardware and the reality of being practical. If you're trying to achieve both in the same gun, you may want to consider a reality check. Guns are tools or pieces of art...if you don't want to use it, it doesn't mean it doesn't have value. I love what Gemini does, but sticking it in a holster everyday will "diminish the finish" .....I said that....:) Sandpiper

that sir, is a beautiful lead shooter.
to the OP, talk with the folks who would be doing the work on your firearm, explain to them your concerns and such, if they want your business they will bendover backward for ya because they want repeat business, bead blasting as i understand it, will remove the coating and make it a mirror finish, some leave it like that, some put on a clear coat to help prevent rust/deposits/wear .. ive looked at alot of gun porn concerning bead blasting, it looks nice, and i didnt notice any abnomalities with the "finish" after a few years of wear.

I'm the last guy you have to convince that a working gun is going to wear, I fully expect it, I've just never had any finish like this so have no frame of reference about HOW it wears in comparison to other finishes.
It definitely sounds like the work comes highly recommended. My next question would be about the porting, my initial thought is not to, however I'm curious as to what you guys think (reminder, it is a 5" Barrel).
Thanks!

It will wear but lets face it if we are buying quality guns an sending them to get customized by talented professionals if they get a little worn it gives them character an us the excuse to buy more guns :) its a win win

For a Ruger revolver guy..looking at Gemini Customs website is almost like finding a stash of Playboys when you're 12 years old.
Just OUTSTANDING! Now, I just need the extra $$ to send my SP101 there for some work!
