Soaked the barrel in vinegar for an hour then used just a scotch bright pad to get the blueing off. Then mothers mag and aluminum polish to shine it up.

For the letters I used white out, then go over it with acetone free nail polish. The white out in the grooves stay and the rest comes off leaving the letters white. I need to do a few more coats though.

I just drop my Storm Lake stainless steel barrel in my Glock 23 when I want the "bling".
As for the nail polish.....I don't wear it, so I would not expect my Glocks to either. JMO.
Afraid if I try to dress them up and make them pretty, they will start to think they're a SIG.

I may be naive, but doesn't that polishing make the barrels more susceptible to rust?

Wouldn't the white come off if it were to come in contact with a solvent, such as "Gun Scrubber"? Or even from bodyheat and sweat?

Naah... Glocks never require cleaning so solvent isn't an issue. They also shrug off sweat and body heat won't melt 'em.

Nope. Glocks use a high quality stainless steal that is treated with melonite that isn't limited to the surface. The melonite is deep into the metal. At the Glock forum, tons have done this with no ill affects whatsoever

I wouldn't know because I use ballistol as a one-for-all method. It doesn't smear any of the white-out.

I may be demonstrating my ignorance by asking, "but why?"

Strictly for looks man....I like the two tone look with the barrel polished and I like that the letters pop now with them white.....with the Glock, it's sorta dull looking anyways so if it doesn't affect it's performance in anyway, why not?
