    My Glock 19 became a Glock 23

Well, I recently purchased a G19 and when I went to shoot it I realized I made a mistake. No 9mm to be found for less than $23 per 50 rounds! And not much of that either. So the next day strolling through wally world and stop by the gun counter, they have no 9mm, .380, or 45, but they have 500 rounds of 40 S&W at $35 per 100 round box.

Now I have never been the brightest bulb in the box, but I do not see this craziness ending anytime soon. I have ALWAYS found 40 S&W ammo everywhere I go, and at reasonable prices. So I found a guy with a G23 and made the trade.

Best part is, should the craziness wear off, I can just buy a storm lake barrel for $100 and shoot 9mm again.

I know, Glock "porn" is boring, but here it is anyways. This is one well kept G23.

The G23 is the best all around gun. You can do 9mm and 357sig and of course 40. You made a great choice of a very versatile weapon.

If I were to get a G19 could I buy barrels for larger calibers or do I need to start with a larger caliber Glock and buy smaller caliber barrels? Congrats on the swap!

You can convert a G23 or G32 to 9mm but not the other way around.

Thanks! I had all but decided that I was going to get a G19 but this may change my mind. Might have to bump it up to the G23 now.

This craziness is exactly why I bought a Glock 23. No more putting all of my eggs in one basket. And I shoot a .40 just as well as I shoot a 9mm anyway.

    Good acquisition!

Yup, same here...only I did all of this four years ago when Obama was first elected. Was hoping we wouldn't be doing it again today.
I swore I would only own 9mm's and .45's....until the first election in 2008 and ammo was rare as hen's teeth. I too noticed that every time
I went to Walmart there was no 9mm, no .45 and no .380....but lots of .40 and .357SIG.

Well never say never. I now own a Glock 23, 27, 32, 31, 33 and a couple of M&P .40's. I don't shoot them as much as my 9mm's, but I always have ammo for something.

Congratulations, I have a 19 and 26 and have enjoyed shooting them but, now thinking maybe I should have when with a 27 and 23. However I have hear that if you leave guns in a dark safe funny things may happen!

Smolk, You Sir, are making out like a bandit.

Keep in mind you can switch between .357 Sig and .40 at will with just a Bbl. swap, but to run 9mm reliably you need to use 17/18/19 mags and you may need to switch to a 9mm ejector and extractor for 100% GLOCK like reliability. Not to say some G23's don't run well with just a conversion Bbl. and 9mm mags; some do. To be 100% sure, if you are going to carry a conversion for SD, better to change out ejector and extractor for social purposes. Just a heads up for safety.

Good thinkin', Smolck! I have a 9mm on layaway right now, but the next one will probably be a .40 S&W for the reason you cite. I've noticed there's a metric crap-ton of forty ammo in the shelves but like you've found, virtually no nine.

Yea, they say the storm lake barrel is offset to allow the ejector to line up properly but I wouldn't carry it for SD that way. I'd just use 9mm for practice.

My brother in law just bought his first pistol (a 9mm) and just called me and said that Academy had one box of 9mm hollow points (Hornady Critical Duty) but was loaded with choices for 40 S&W. Off to wal mart to grab a few hundred rounds and go to the range later today. I am happy! Thanks for all the replies.

Somebody on here wrote that 40 might be the "preppers 9mm". I think they may be right on.
