Glock 23 vs Glock 22: Input welcome

I have a Glock 27 on order from the local gun shop. With my tax return I hope to acquire a big brother for the little fella. I wonder if a Glock 23 or Glock 22 would serve me better? This would be for ccw and home defense. Another question: Gen4 or Gen 3 in whatever I end up choosing? Your input is most welcome. Might try to head to local gun stores to handle both models before they close.

by all means, handle the 22 and 23 at your LGS, but better yet, see if your local range has them for rent, and shoot them.

i have smallish hands, so the 22 feels too large in my hands, while the 23 is perfect. since you'll already have a 27, the choice between a 22 and a 23 gets easier. you can pretty much pick the one that you like best. since you can use the larger 22 magazines in the 23, ammo capacity for home defense can be the same.

my best gunny friend had both a 22 and a 27 for several years. he has since sold/traded them off and replaced them with a 19, which is the same size as the 23, except in 9mm. just his preference, and he has larger hands than i do.

i would get a Gen 4, if it were me. i like the new textured grips, the extra backstraps, and most of all, the larger and less sharp edged mag release. the new recoil spring guide/assembly i could take or leave, but Glock seems to have worked the bugs out of that system. see the sticky thread on the Gen 4's for more info.

I have owned a Gen. 2 G22 and Gen. 4 G23, I prefer the G23 and that is over the sub-compacts as well.

I have a gen 3 G22.....love it.... I prefer the longer grip over the 23, but the 23 is great too

Although anything can be concealed adequately the G23 is smaller so it would be easier. The G22 being slightly bigger holds more ammo. I'd definitely go for the gen 4 but there is nothing wrong with any generation of Glock.

    I have a G27 and a G19. I would say the G19/23 are what Glock Perfection means.

I have all three and agree you should buy whichever fits your hand better. I would go with the Gen 4 as I like the texturing and mag release better.

For ccw AND home defense I would go with the 23. Seems to be the perfect size for both of those

Curious the reasoning Glock only does the muzzle radius on the G26/27/36 guns...? IMO it makes the gun look better and easier to re-holster.

Absolutely no idea Backwoodz, it is an attractive feature and plenty of Smith's offer it.

    23. Gen 4, if it's available. If not, Gen 3 works great. All you give up from the 22 is 1/2" of barrel. The 23 is equal for duty use, and easier to conceal. The 19/23 frame is perfect.

i got a gen 3 g23 and a gen 3 g21, 21 i believe is same size as 22 and i like the way the 23 feels in my hand better. fits my hand like a glove and its good for h.d and carrying. the 21 is a bit different feel in my hand but still love it. i would go with a 23 gen 4 if i were you.

I own all 3 and carry the 23 everyday, but it really is a matter of personal preference.
