Your Thoughts on Beretta px4 Storm Compact?

My son turns 21 soon and is ready for his first cc pistol. He will be taking his concealed carry class soon and has done most of his shooting with my full size S&W 9mm. He is a real good shot. He really likes the Beretta px4 Storm Compact .40. Any thoughts on this particular gun?

I have a PX4 Compact in 9mm. Fits my hand very well, recoil is moderate, pistol is remarkably accurate. My PX4 is one of my EDC guns, and I gladly recommend one. While I know mine is a 9 and you are looking at a .40, I have to say I have about 600 rounds through mine with no failures at all.

They are great guns, but they are too thick for tastes. I prefer my Ruger SR40C or a glock all day long. Plus, I like guns that are glock simple...no decockers etc.

I agree with Taurahe, I almost bought a PX4, but they were a little thicker than I wanted, ended up settling on the XdM3.8.

It is a strange design with the rotating barrel and the Maryland State Police recently removed them from service as a result of numerous failures in reliability. As a range gun, a minor annoyance, as a gun you trust your life on? No thanks. Buy a Glock or an M&P.

I really like my Px4 Compact .40. Got turned on to it when my buddy let me shoot his SubCompact .40 at the range several weeks ago. Had to have one! Couldn't find the SubCompact so I went for a Compact. Recoil isn't bad and it is deadly accurate. I have had no issues so far, but the weather is so bad here I have had it to the range but once and put 25 rounds through it. I typically carry a Kahr CW9 in a Crossbreed MiniTuck, but the round edges of the Px4 make it very comfortable to carry, and 12 +1 rounds of .40 feels VERY comforting!

overall width of the Storm is 1.4" with a grip width of 1.2" and they weigh 27 ounces unloaded..........

There are much better options for concealed carry just based on the above criteria.

    I had one in 9mm.

It was CHUNKY and wasn't 100% reliable.

I put it in a head to head matchup against my Glock 19, and ended up selling the PX4.

What type of failures? This is the first I have heard of issues with the px4. We just recently bought my wie one due to alot of good reviews and an officer I know highly recommended it.

Comfort while carrying has less to do with the gun you are carrying than your Holster and how you carry it. A Px4 Compact is my EDC and I can tell you that size and weight of the gun have never once presented an issue....and I am not a "large" guy either....6ft 215lbs.

If you're going to make a statement that it wasn't "100% reliable" at least point out the "failures" you experienced.

I have a full size in 9mm. It has been flawless for about 700 rounds. The gun has the least amount of muzzle flip I've ever experienced in a handgun (which I love) due to the rotating barrel. More rounds need to go downrange before I declare it bullet proof but I have shot as much as I can with ammo being just about impossible to find. It is chunky and heavy with 18 rounds on board, but I didn't worry about that because it was bought for nightstand and truck duty. I do OC it in a Fobus paddle in the woods and when I'm alone working at the office on weekends. It would be tough to conceal IWB for me because of it's thickness. Great gun so far. My only concern would be the ability to conceal it in summer clothes.

I did not say carrying the Storm was not do-able....what I said is that there are MUCH better options for concealed carry than a fat, heavy gun like the Storm.
Thin and light trumps fat and heavy every time when it comes to concealed carry.....especially in Florida summers when its 100 degrees every day.

As stated earlier, I have but 25 rounds through my .40 Compact, but my buddy has over 400 rounds through his .40 SubCompact without a failure. I too would appreciate hearing details of the alleged failures.
