LCP, what a dud..

Went with a friend to shoot last night. Wanted to shoot my new shield and celebrate finding ammo.
After we shot a few magazines through shield my buddy got all excited to shoot his LCP. I think he was kind of hoping I'd shoot it and wish I'd gotten one instead of shield.

Holy crap, what a turd that thing was. I love Ruger, but man, the first time I pulled the trigger I thought I was going to have a birthday before it broke. Talk about slack.

Then in two magazines we had 2 FTE in each one.

Not impressed one bit.

Bummer, I love mine. I love my 1911 more, but I do like shooting the LCP too.

Sounds like an older LCP. Get a new one without a dash in the serial number, much improved trigger. The new LCP trigger is similar to the Shield but with a longer pull. It's a good one though.

I don't mind a long pull as long as it's smooth. My gun smith Uncle jaded me with massaged revolvers at an influential young age.

Have a LCP & LC9 and have had zero problems with both. My "go to" pocket pistols.

My wife's LCP has no slack, but it is a long and somewhat heavy pull.

The first time I shot an LCP was while I was working at the range (RSO). A regular came in and showed me his new LCP, and wanted to see how it would shoot. He fired off a magazine and didn't like his shot placement. I asked if I could give it a shot (he's always happy to oblige), and sent a couple rounds through the center of the target. That gun shoots great. The trigger is something I can easily get over.

In my opinion, the little differences in every gun is what makes shooting exciting. How does this gun shoot? What are its characteristics? How do I need to adjust myself to make this gun fire accurately?

A little practice makes that heavy trigger a non-issue.

Thanks for the new sig line. I have the exact same feeling on the LCP/LC9. Different strokes for different folks though.

Having never shot the LCP I can't compare, but if it's like the LC9 I'd agree. I have yet to shoot a subcompact that I like better than my shield (though the XDs with extended grip came close). True that some people like it, but then again, people put truck nuts on their vehicles too... Just isn't for me.

My LCP runs great, except for Tula Ammo, then it practically chokes to death.

The trigger isn't all that great, but the gun is a small hideout piece, and I wan't expecting a great trigger.

Sorry you had a bad experience with the LCP.

Dont own one but a friend owns two. Shot em a lot. For short range SD cant fault it. Not a target pistol by any means but it was never designed to be one. For what its built for I didnt have any complaints. Except the stupid lazer hanging on one of em but im not a lazer guy either.

I've never tried the LCP but I nearly shot soda out my nose when I read that!

My LCP is in my pocket everyday. They do need to be kept clean, NO pocket lint.

Granted there are lots of CCW's out there much better, but the LCP fills a niche very well.

Send it back to Ruger if it's not functioning right.

I won an LCP and like it for what I bought it for, a small, light, and easily concealed pistol. Yes the trigger pull is long and harder than my Glock 17, but since I carry the LCP [appendix carry IWB] with a round in the chamber and it has no safety I consider that a plus actually. The snappy recoil bothered me a little at first, but that was pretty much solved with a Hogue grip.

I was an early adopter of the LCP, I had to send it in to Ruger for the recall. I also own a LC9 and a SW Shield and I have to say they all have their strengths. I don't share the OP's opinion of the LCP. It is a fantastic weapon for its size and conceal-ability. I carry it more than any of my other pistols.

-I gotta add, I am a Ruger fan. 1st pistol was a P95, and the LCR is on my "want" list. I just enjoy honest accounts.
