Starting to get Bored.
I took my Glock 27 to the range last night and got my round count to about 600 and realized how boring the gun has been. Just point, shoot, bang, every time. Don't get me wrong, there is nothing wrong with that!
I shot my dad's S&W 28 and I can still feel it in my hand. I also shot, for free, the Ruger Mini-14 and Remington 870 this week to qualify for my department. Needless to say, it was a great week filled with lots of shooting!

Better a boring gun which goes bang every time than one that scares the %^& out of you by NOT going bang when it needs to.

A day at the range like that sounds good to me. Glad to hear you had a boring good time.

Boring is good when it comes to tools. The gun is just a "lever" in the hands of the real weapon. No one wants a complicated, untrustworthy lever.
Enjoy the boring. It lets you concentrate on "sharpening" the real weapon.

For a defensive gun, that's perfect. Boring and dull, but goes 'bang' every time and strikes what I aim at. Anything less just isn't quite the same.
But I'm with you: a 'shooting' gun that's a bit more raw and that has more character is more my speed. At least, so long as that doesn't impact its reliability.

Glocks have a way of being boring like that. Got a nephew with a Glock 29. Shooting full house 10mm loads make that Glock a little more fun to shoot!

Take a new shooter next time.
You'll have a great time teaching someone new, and I've found their excitement is usually contagious! Besides, everything we can do to grow a culture of active, responsible gun owners helps.

Change up your shooting if you can,set up multiple targets, practice drawing and shooting on the move etc.

@ OP: It sounds to me like you need to start working new things into your training routine. A shot timer and some movement will clear all of that boredom up for you really quick.
It is surely true that you can lead a horse to water but you can't make them drink. Nor can you make them grateful for your efforts.

You got that right! Their happiness at hitting the target and doing everything right and SAFE will put a smile on my face all day long. Nothing quite like that first big grin and "I hit it!!"

My range has dropping metal plates. It beats punching holes in paper.
However, my friends and I had a blast one day using a paper target that looked like PeeWee Herman. We took turns challenging each other to take out the left eyeball, or the right knee, etc.
It was competitive and it was fun.
(Actually, I thought the target looked an awful lot like Vladimir Putin, but my friends out-voted me.)

Sounds to me like you need to head for Knob Creek when they have their annual Machine Gun Shoot. They have exploding targets there too as I understand it. The heavy artillery crowd make a good showing with their hardware as well.
