Cool I might be a revolver guy

My Dad lives a few miles out of town and I go out to his place to shoot and practice. He has steel plates we shoot at. I carry a M&P 45c and was trying different ammo through it when I got to thinking about all the sweet revolvers I've seen on this site lately. I asked my Dad if I could shoot one of his revolvers. He brought out a S&W 38 special w/ 8 3/8" barrel. He said it was one of the guns he used to use for 3 gun competition. It felt like it was built to fit my hand perfectly. I was shooting it much better and faster than my M&P. I figured it was due to less recoil. I asked if I could shoot something bigger. He brought out a S&W 45LC w 8 3/8" barrel. I was able to shoot it as fast and accurate as the 38. I asked my Dad if he wanted to trade his 45LC for my M&P... he just chuckled. I had a blast knocking the plates around with the revolvers. Next time I want to try his 45LC w 4" barrel to see if I can shoot it as well as the long barrel guns. I wanted a wheel gun for its good looks. Now I think I need one to carry.

There seems to be something magical about classic S&W revolvers, once you have the pleasure of using one you just have to have one (or more) of your own.

Revolvers are making a "comeback" of sorts, with the fear of losing the ability to buy larger capacity semis. They never went away, just many people forgot about them, thinking semis were "cooler." I started getting back into revolvers a couple years ago and I love them. The last three handguns I bought were revolvers. Go back and have a good time shooting your dad's revolvers again, and then go out and buy one of those beauties for yourself.

How did that taste, goin' down?

A classic .45LC can be hard to beat, when it's an "oldie," well-balanced, nicely broken in, smooth as "buttah." Bummer that beggin' was required, though. I'm sure you'll get over it. Nicely, you can just call up Dad for another shooting session, anytime you please. Gotta love how things work out.

Look at the bright side: Once he's gone, you'll likely see it in the will. 'Course, he'll live to 115, probably, crusty ol' shooter that he is.

I hope he lives to 115, I'll only be 90 then! He had these same guns when I was a punk kid and lived at home, but I was more interested in shooting the 1911s and the AR (which are cool too). I never paid much attention to the wheel guns and shotguns. Now I'm in my 40s and getting back into guns and I look at these classics in a whole different light.

I started with a .357 snubnose. I desperately want something in a 'forty-something', but wife won't let me buy right now...

My stepfather has a S&W .357 with a 3" barrel and it's sweet; nice, smooth double action. Single action will probably make you wet yourself a little first time you experience it- think about it hard and it drops the hammer.

repent for your sins..... send me all of your guns so that I may remove the evil from inside them.... and dont forget to send ammo with them too :)
My LCR is by far my favorite carry gun, it is so light and easy shooting. I would love a ruger sp101..... or a classic chief special 38..... or a quality colt SAA clone in .45 LC......

Nice thread, I am retired an can buy most any gun I want to chck out. I have tried most of the wonder guns an recently tried a shield. I am a sucker for the new pocket nines. Everytime I buy one they tend to bite me in the butt. So I end up selling them. My revolvers have never let me own, they are sweet to hold an shoot. In a pinch I would rather reach down an feel that wood grip an know if it has to it will go bang. That said I still want to try a CZ compact:)

I started my handgun journey shooting my Grandpa's S&W "Combat Masterpiece" (38sp) and it mate in .22 rimfire. They were a matched pair in a presentation case. Can still remember how good they felt in my hand. Have had a number of handguns of my own since then, but none of them have felt quite the same as those two.

Agreed....there is a lot to be said about wheelguns. Some people shoot them better than some high priced autoloaders. One of the sweetest revolvers I ever shot was a 3" Ruger GP100, and I have always been a fan of the SP101. If you can, give one of these Rugers a whirl and see what you think. Not only are revolvers not picky about ammo, they are also unaffected by contact shots. (Meaning you can jam the muzzle into an assailant's body without it malfunctioning. Semi-Auto's can have the slide go out of battery and not discharge.)

I like a revolver much better than a auto loader, and carried a S&W Model 60 for about 20 years but switched to a auto loader only because of increased capacity. I have liked revolvers since I first saw my first Tom Mix movie. Am I dating myself? I'll bet some will ask, who is Tom Mix.

Easy 8, I hold you partially responsible for this recent wheel gun craze. The 2 snubs you've shown pictures of have made alot of people daydream.
