Have 357 mag S&W 640 pro on order – thinking ahead – next revolver I want a Taurus.

Of the following – which one would you recommend? (Please stick with the following – I know many other choices out there but for now these are the only ones I want to consider) Thanks in advance…

    MODEL 617 .357 MAG. REVOLVER
    Taurus International Manufacturing Inc

MODEL 605 .357 MAG. REVOLVER IN STAINLESS STEEL
    Taurus International Manufacturing Inc

TRACKER MODEL 627 .357 MAG. REVOLVER

I sure like the 605. Very small and compact. Easy to conceal. I really like the ribber grips.
    Good luck.

The only one I can speak to is the 617. You'll get a lot of internet bashing of anything Taurus but I never had any trouble with the 617 I had. I no longer own the Taurus and it was never going to be my favorite revolver but it was a dependable 7 shots in a compact package. If you want a Taurus the 617 ought to work for you.

Out of the choices you listed, I would likely lean toward the M605. If the option was still open, a Ruger SP101, which is hands down the strongest snub gun on the market.

Oh man, if you could only be convinced otherwise!

I've been able to observe Taurus revolvers belonging to others and it has never once been a pretty picture. When folks like wmhawth above recommend them then it has to be that the occasional good Taurus gets out and into the hands of shooters. Of the ones I've seen, handled, shot, or worked on, the best Taurus revolvers could only be described as "yuck"... as in sloppy, gummy, rough-feeling actions and the worst ones were simply broken ... as in major failures of lock work components. Weird stuff that ought not have occurred.

the 627 Tracker ..7 shot on a medium frame...I like the 4 inch barrel ,...great handgun I've owned a couple in the past ..i really like them..I always have my eye peeled for a good used one at a good price ..but they bring top dollar..and they are hens teeth ..I wish they would come out with a 40 S&W /10mm version

I'm a Ruger fan ..i don't stray often ..but ..no one offers this set up but Big "T" ..I've ALWAYS had good luck with Taurus.... I only own one Taurus right now and its a Rossi

This is a Rossi made by Taurus ..44 Mag ..built on a Med. Frame and it is a solid revolver..as well made as any newer Smith that is put out today...

Curious...are you running 44 Specials through that mule or do you enjoy the pain of the full blown "Nuke-A-Puke" rounds?

I owned one a long time ago in .38 and it was horrible. That said, I have been hearing just in the very recent past they have made a commitment to improving quality and have released some new lines that I have heard some good buzz about.

Well I tried a few 44 Mag rounds ..some reduced 44 Mags .and a couple of full house 240gr stompers ..I didn't have to ask anyone if it went off.!!

Its much more comfortable with 44 Spl. loads ..even with heavy 44 Spl. loads... I tote a staggered load ....first a 185gr 44spl .HP Hi-tech load ..then a 44 Mag Remington 240 gr hollow point ..the a heavy 44 Spl 240 gr HP ..then two heavy 240gr 44 Mag. expanding FMJ loads not sure why ? seems cool...

I have all Three. My 627 is the ported 4". It shoots great and handles factory 357 comfortably. My wife likes it with 38spl to practice. I love shooting 357s out of it. The 617 is a 2" DAO. I have shot and carried it a lot. It is accurate and has a really sweet trigger action. My wife used it for her CCW test and wants it for carry. The 605 is a 2" but it has a hammer. It also has a excellent trigger and is easy to be accurate with. It was a main carry for a long time. Now the tuff part which one to get. 627, great for the range and woods. 617, great for range and carry. It also handles 357 comfortably. 605, easy to carry and with the right grips handles 357 ok. Now that I confused the hell out of you, good luck. Forgot to say I had to put the Ribber Grips on the 617.

I hate to say but this is good advice. I use to really like Taurus but I've just seen way too much junk from them lately. Stick with S&W or a Ruger and you'll be much happier.

I like the Taurus and i'm going to keep them but, I have to admit, I am carrying Two Rugers. I decided to carry only American Revolvers. The Sp101 is AIWB and the LCR357 is in my pocket. Every day all day.
