    Sig 229 & Ammo Abuse

I have a Sig 229 with a 357 sig barrel. I have Underwood 357 sig ammo 125gr. leaving the muzzle at 1475fps. My question is will using this pumped up ammo damage my Sig 229?

Well, that's plenty warm. But SIGs are tough.

Gold Dots are what I prefer to run in a 357 SIG.

Best off asking the factory. Here, some will say yes, some no.

Crowding 1500 out of a 3.9 barrel is all kinds of hot. I'd clock it to see if it's real.

Chrono it... I bet you'll see higher numbers than they claim. Most do.

IMO you'll be fine. And I use Underwood for all my ammo also... always happy to see another member. Prefer it with the Gold Dot bullets over the Hornady bullets... but I'll take what I can get right now.

That's smoking hot, I would suggest keeping a good recoil spring in your P229. One of my favorite .40/.357's by the way; I've owned 3 of them and my current is an SCT model with Hogue G10's.

No. Mine eats it all day.

A stiffer recoil spring probably won't hurt.

My P229 came from Sig in .357 and it is designed to shoot it. Sig and Federal designed the round at 1450 fps with a 125 grain bullet. Underwood is one of few who make actual ,357 Sig ammo. All the watered down stuff in the 1200 to 1300 fps range is nothing more than a hot 9mm. I don't change out any springs on my P229 because I am sure Sig designed it right to start with.ImageUploadedByTapatalk1372720565.773475.jpg
