Tough choice need input m&p shield or xds?

I currently carry a p238 and want to move to 9mm or higher.

I am in Florida where it is hot all the time. Iwb is my only choice. Crossbreed has been my preference but I am open to suggestions.

I carry the 238 appendix but with a larger firearm I will likely move the 3 o'clock position. I have no belly to help hide a firearm.

Love the feel of the taurus slim pt709 but negative stories are all over about poor quality.

Looking at the m&p shield in 40/9 or the xds 45/9

I like the feel of the smith but the functions of the xd.

Xd seems smaller but wider than the smith.

I like the handle and trigger combo safety of the xd allowing no thought to disengage.

Thinking caliber, I have no 40 in my collection at all.
45 on the xd only allows 5+1

    Any input would be appreciated.

I have both (Shield in 9mm and XDS 45) and I prefer the shield. I do like both of them very much, however.

In the same "footprint" I get two extra rounds of 9mm, and I can shoot the Shield much more accurately in rapid fire point shooting.

The Shield is slightly slimmer and has slightly better balance for me.

I really like the ability to carry a .45 in the small XDS package, however.

I don't think you will go wrong with either. The are both very good subcompacts. If money is a factor, note the shield is slightly less expensive.

I have both the shield and xds... I like them both, but to me I lt seems like I can conceal the xds easier than the shield, they are both being used in the same holster.

I say flip a coin. I can see where the XDs might be a little easier to conceal.

    Thanks for the input:

Nice to have the choice, when you own one of each.

Leaning towards the 9mm XDs as I continue my research.

I like the grip feel on the shield but the XD seems to be a little easier to conceal.

    Width - Sheild Wins
19oz Shield vs 23 XDs - Shield Wins
Safety- XDs Handle and Trigger vs thumb and Trigger- XDs Wins
    Sights- XDs Wins
    Handle comfort - Shield wins
    Handle Length- XDs Wins

    Coin flip may actually happen.....

I have both the XDs 45 and 9. It's almost funny how easy these guns are to conceal. I don't even have to think about what type of shirt I'm wearing.

While a bit thicker, you really cannot go wrong with a baby Glock. Carries more ammo, and lighter in weight than the porky XDs. And with a G19 or G17 mag for a reload, you have some serious firepower in a small, light, reliable package.

If you have a Sig 238 now, how about the 9mm 938? Same manual of arms?

Not really a tough choice. The XDs has "Made in Croatia" stamped all over it. The Shield is made in the Good Ol USA.

The XDs is a good shooter, and I had one, but my Shield won the argument and no longer shares the safe with that Croatia made polymer gun.

Another good ccw comparable to the shield is the Kahr CW9. Worth a look. I'm in fla as well and it conceals easy for me at 3 o'clock IWB. GL

Just a side note i shifted my appendix carry to more like 1:30. This keeps the drawstring of the shorts from getting tangled with my gun & holster, it also when wearing jeans, keeps the belt buckle from scratching gun slide (I skip over first loop on pants so I can shift the belt buckle more to my weak side )

Funny quote when you carry a Glock?? But to the OP I have a XDS45. My cousin has the Xds9mm and Shield. I shot them all alotI like the Both. I bought my XDS when there was a panic and couldn't find anything. I was gonna get a Shield because I wanted a 9mm. I happen to see the XDS45 bought it and love it now. In summer months it took place of my G27 for CCW. Its easier to shoot and easier to conceal. I just carry two 7rd mags for backup.

Yep, just a personal hang-up of mine. It was a great gun though. My XDs was in .45 and was a sweet shooter. Impressive trigger for a striker fired gun. Just couldn't get past the feeling of being communist when holding it. Make of it what you will.

Same Government type as Australia. Not Communist. I don't care anyway. But what I want is a Glock that says USA on it. I've seen them. And if the finish isn't as good I will just get it sent out for nickel boron
