Unusual? No, it appears to be a parkerized WWII M&P that happens to be loaded. Probably 38Sp, and possibly used by USN?

I said \"different\" from today\'s S&W yes it is a WWII navy issue M&P often refered to as a \"5 screw\" because there are 4 screws in the side plate and one in the front of the trigger guard. The guy I got it from was a crewman on a PBY and I also got most of the only box of ammo he requisitioned with it, I shot it a few times but I would say there has been fewer than 200 rounds fired through it. And yes it is loaded, I have a large heavy duty gun safe and all except the compitition S&W at the top right are loaded.
