    Shield barrel

I've read you can put a 9mm barrel in a 40 Shield. The mags for 9mm will also fit. Their are many videos and posts proving this. S&W says no to this. Probably also voids warranty. Like I would tell them! Haha! My question is have you done this and should I try?

if you have to ask, you prob shouldnt do it. Since S&W doesnt recommend it , and they designed it, I would go with what they say.

Sounds like you've already made up your mind as to whether this should be done or not. It's your hand/face dude... do what you want if everyone is doing it (like that phrase never got anybody in trouble before)...

Shoot the caliber the gun was intended for.

If you wanted another caliber, you should have gotten that one.

Settle down. It's funny how much people get offended and out of sorts over guns. A question was asked and he answered. Plain and simple.

    It's about having 1 gun that shoots 2 calibers. Like a .357 revolver. If I wanted a 9mm solely then I would've got a 9mm.

I doubt very much that a 9mm load will cause damage to a .40. My concern would be the diameter of the barrel being smaller than the opening in the slide. If there is a substantial difference, you could get barrel wobble, which will definitely affect accuracy.

As to the magazine issue. You would probably have to pinch the top of the magazine closed to retain the rounds in the magazine. Also depending on the length of the rounds, you could end up with the 9mm siting further back in the magazine and not feeding properly.

I'd be willing to bet the recoil spring for the .40 is a stronger spring than for the 9mm. That could also cause issues.

By the time you buy a barrel, possibly nrew magazine and also the possibility of needing a weaker recoil spring, where are you saving that much money?

I went to the S&W forum and everyone is doing it I guess. Also with the other M&P's as well. Sig makes a gun that does the same.
