Went to the gun show today, got another snubby.

I have a nice S&W Model 40 but I don’t like the heavy DAO trigger. I went to the New Bern gun show today and found this really nice S&W Model 49, much better trigger plus I can thumb cock it for an even better SA trigger. There are deals to still be found if you look around, this little jewel was only $375.

Congrats on the good find. Unfortunately, around here at shows (and on Facebook local gun trade pages), prices are on par with rape. People here seriously price used guns higher than what you can buy the same thing new for at one of our major independent LGS.

...Pachmayr Compac grips available through Midway...got 'em on my 649, SP101, and every other snub I've carried that they make for...awesome shooting/carrying grips...

...being a 49, that gun's worth about $550...$500's the going rate on the stainless 649(the old one) around here...sure made it worth your time going to that show!!!

    You're gonna love it!!!!

I picked up my 49 about 5 years ago at a gun show for $300, and it still had the original diamond wood grips on it. It was the pocket gun of a pawn shop owner for 20+ years...he was carrying it the day I bought it. It has the smoothest trigger.

There's just something about the camel hump all steel 49. Until you've shot one, you just can't understand.

Then I saw the SS 649 a year ago and had to have it too...I put ebony grips on it. It's nice, but not as nice a shooter as the older 49.

That is a great snubbie. The enclosed hammer that is still accessible is great.

Is it a problem if detritus gets in the mechanical? I would be worried about that.

I've pocket carried mine a ton and have never had any issues with anything getting in the hammer shroud.
