Range Report: Springfield armory 1911-A1 .45 ACP

As some of you may remember, I aquired a SA 1911-A1 GI commander .45 ACP, and was downtrodden from the issues it had. So off it went to SA for some TLC, and man did they do a bang up job. They replaced springs, new barrel, flared and lowered the ejection port, refinished the slide and generally sent me back a brand new gun. Weell today I foinally got it to the range, and boy oh boy was it a hoot.

When I first got it the gun was refusing to eject properly. Well it is a whole new ball game now. It fed flawlessly from every magazine I had, with all of the fun and love you can have for a 1911. It shucks casings with supreme authority, throwing them hard to the right, just the way i like it. The only issue I had was I only brought a hundred rounds of ammo...... now i have to find some better sights to put on it, the gi sights are about as useful as teats on a bull in anything but excellent light.

Glad SA worked the bugs out. Check out 10-8 Performance sights; I used to just automatically slap Novaks on a 1911, but after trying the very different 10-8 U Notch I am a fan.

Any chance you can post before and after pics of your reworked 1911?

Glad to hear it! I know you mentioned you are getting into reloading. .45 acp/most pistol, I have read and heard is the easiest to start with. Sounds like a good push to get the gear for .45 acp. That is what I am starting with.

Glad she was brought back to her potential!
