    Mix and match 1911's

Is it possible to take a standard Government Model barrel/Slide combo and mount it on an Officer's Model frame(receiver) WITHOUT modification and the resulting weapon function ?

It may work but I believe the dust cover would be too short.

    Probably want a FLGR.......

Might want to be careful. The barrel link geometry may be different as well.

The vertical impact surface is about .01" farther to the rear on the Commander and Officers models frames and the frame rails are shorter by about the same amount. You won't get full slide travel. Sometimes it will function ok but most times it won't. A Commander slide and barrel will do fine on an Officer's frame.

They call that a CCO if I remember correctly although I think it's usually a Commander slide which may cover the gap. The big problem is that slide, frame, slidestop, and barrel should all be fitted together to function correctly. They are not Lego guns. While it MAY work, premature wear is likely if its too loose, or failures if its too tight.

I have a Commander frame sporting an Officers slide, sweet pistol.

You could have a good smith cut the grip to officer length and relocate the grip bushings for proper grip fit. Other modifications may be needed.

There are very few smiths I would trust to do this work. And they ain't cheap.

I think Kimber makes something like this. Pricey, but having a good gunsmith create one will be more expensive.

Having a mediocre gunsmith create one will be more expensive still.

Please post a link if possibke. I'm not aware of any manufacturer putting out a product with an officer frame and government slide.

I mis-remembered! The closest is the Compact series, with an Officer frame and a Commander slide. Sorry!

Thanks for all the input. I was confusing the ability of putting a Commander Slide/Barrel combo with that of a Government Model !! No chance of a Bubba Gun here.... Sorry guys !
