    Glock 19 Gen 3 vs. Gen 4

I recently purchased a new Glock 19 from my local gun dealer. My first Glock. Anyway, he sold me a new 19, a Gen 3. He never offered or presented a Gen 4. I am happy with my purchase, but should I be concerned or perturbed that he did not offer the Gen 4 as an option? Was he trying to clean out his old inventory, or did he estimate all I needed was the Gen 3? Yes, he had both on hand.

With the gen 4 you will get two spare magazines and different size handle back straps. Different grip texture too. I do not know of any internal changes, but I'm not an armorer either. Enjoy your Glock, cant go wrong with a 19

I think that the Gen 3 is the pinnacle of Glock goodness. The Gen 4's have SLIGHTLY better erog's but theres is absolutely nothing wrong with the gen 3.

I had a gen 3 19. It was wonderful. The only reason I don't have it now is that I wound up with a 26, a 19 and a 17. Then I decided I really wanted a 34 so I traded in the 19. All same generation. They are all perfect shooters and I am happy and very comfortable with the grips.

I have no desire for a gen 4. Even though I'm sure they are fine guns.

That doesn't mean I won't get one some day, but it would be in addition to what I have, not in place of. I wouldn't trade any of the ones I have now for a gen 4.

I think they went to a different recoil spring in the gl 19 gen 4,and as one mentioned the backstraps.I have the gl19 gen 3 and i'm sure the gen 4 is fine, but i wouldn't trade mine for one.I've had zero problems with it so far.

I prefer the Gen. 4 due to the larger mag release and rougher grip texture, but other people like the less abrasive frame. Even though I have large hands I like the Gen. 4's slimmer grip too. You really can't go wrong either way. If you had gotten a G22 or G23 the dual recoil spring makes for a softer/faster shooting gun, but in 9mm I wouldn't care.

You got the best with the Gen 3, IMHO...I would have chosen the Gen 3 over the Gen 4, if offered the choice. You did very well!

If you are sure he had both on hand, did YOU ask to see the Gen4?

If you asked to see the Gen3 (or simply asked to see a 19) and seemed to like the one presented to you, he had no reason to show you the 4 if you didn't ask to see it as a comparison or ask him about any differences. It almost sounds more like a case of buyers remorse and not a screwing by a local dealer.

I got a Gen 4 G19 and traded it after several FTF's in a month. If I were to revisit a G19 I would actually look for a pre 2010 Gen 3. I was burned by the Gen4 and learned a long time ago to not go down the same road twice.

You know, a lot of people actually prefer the Gen 3 Glocks to the Gen 4s.

I think he did you a big favor. You might have messed up and picked a Gen 4, if you didnt know any better. And Im not kidding.

This year I bought another G 19. They had Gen 3 & 4s in stock. I wouldnt even consider the Gen 4. I bought the Gen 3. The store seemed to understand perfectly.

I have replaced all my Gen 3 Glocks with Gen 4's. This includes a G17, a G27, and a G30. I personally like how the Gen 4's feel in my hand and they have been 100% reliable. MY LGS will show you whichever pistol you "point" at or ask to see. Many times they will have some slightly different models in the back room but you have to ask to see a specific one.
