Depends on the definition of "reasonable."

S&W seems to be among the few to make an external extractor work on a 1911. From what I've seen, the overall quality is good, but I have not seen any high-mileage ones to comment on durability.

I have an 108282 stainless full size which is a great weapon. Dead nuts accurate and never malfed. I really like it even though you cant claim to have a real 1911 because it does have a external extractor...LOL...OK, I made that part up but there are folks who will talk bad about ya. I like mine and it sits on my headboard when I am sleeping at night. That is the best compliment I can give it!!

I have carried a S&W 1911 from their custom shop for many years. It works flawlessly. Never a problem.

I have one of their production guns in stainless as well. Never a problem with it at all as far as shooting it goes. Had a minor issue with the safety being loose but it was fixed and returned to me within two weeks and have not had any issues with it since.

Which model is it? Is it new, or used?

For the 'Base' model, $800 is a pretty good price for a new one. Cabelas lists them for $900 new.

My S&W 1911PD was the best 1911 I've owned, with the exception of the Ed Brown I traded it for. I wouldn't hesitate to get another.

Had one, 100% reliable and great value for the money. Only reason I sold it was because I wanted a commander sized 1911 and they did not offer one at the time.

I have the S&W 1911"E" commander size and it has been flawless from day one including with my JHP handloads. It makes my Kimber feel ashamed. The "E" series has many new upgrades and you can get a street price on the 5" for around $800-850 new. A great deal. The lightweight Commander is much more pricey. I feel S&W makes the best, least talked about 1911s. Perhaps they don't have enough problems.
