Moving on from XS Big Dots

Well, I never thought I'd be saying this, but I decided to remove the XS Big Dots from my Glock 26 and switch to something else. I now run a set of Meprolight Tru-Dots in the green/green configuration.

Reason: I was sick of my accuracy. I know what XS sights are designed for. However, switching to the 3-dot notch-and-post combat sight, and I saw immediate improvement. At all distances (knife distance to 25 yards). Just as fast. No bull.

This is significant because I've been a big advocate of Big Dots. And now, thanks to those Meps, I don't miss them.

    What do you guys think?

I have nothing but love for Meprolight Tru-Dots. Have them on both my SD guns.

There are no absolutes. I think you found that out. I hope the new sights work out for you....

So does that mean your big dots need a home?

Would not put them on a glock sight radius is long enough to need regular sights. IMHO big dots excel on snubs an other short barrel weapons.

it's hard to say without comparing them in life and death situations.

XS Big Dots or Meprolight green front/ yellow rear, either works for me.

XS on short barrel guns at bad breath distance. Mepro lights on mid to full size frame that get shot further than 7 yards.

During short distance or closing target drills, I watch the front sight and when it is on target the trigger gets pulled. Anything other distance, I aim. XS Big Dots don't lend themselves to precision shooting. They do lend themselves to short distance, fast "place dot insert bullet". Especially for us older eyes guys!

Instinctive point shooting at bad breath distances, sighted fire when you have that luxury.

I just don't see the appeal of the big dots.

Although I tried to like the XS Big Dots on my G19 I finally just admitted that they weren't for me. I replaced them with Trijicon HDs and wish I'd done it sooner.

I've had Trijicon on Glocks, but prefer Meprolites. They seem faster to me.

Yep, I too gave Big Dots their fair share of time. But I just had to move on.

Other than precision, what are your beefs with them, especially when used on a compact, short barreled handgun?

That is other than "I don't like them." I get that; to each their own.

    I am interested.

I've never tried the car big dots. Seems like a good concept but I think the big dot would snag, no?
