    Stoeger Cougar

Did anyone see the article on the new Stoeger Cougar in the new Guns and Ammo? It is the exact same gun as the Berretta Couger. Stoeger being a subsidiary of Berrestta, they shipped the tooling and all to the Stoeger plant and now they are making them.

The kick of it is, the M.S.R.P. is a measly $350.00!

I think I really need one of these.

I think you maybe right. I like the look of the gun and for under $300 retail it would be a good option.

I've not seen one but the G&A write up was pretty good. But since I can get a Glock for $400 (Mil) I'd rather pay the extra dollars and keep the same platform.

Yeah i read the article too, it really got me interested. I have never handled one and would like to to get a feel of it. I will be looking in the future for a 9mm that is smaller than my Taurus PT92 to carry.

Was this the one with the rotating barrel? Or was that something different?

One of my local dealers sells them for $309, but he didn't have a 9mm or I'd have probably bought one.

It does have a rotating barrel. My only complaint with the Stoeger Cougar (and probably true for the original Beretta Cougar) is that the mags for the Cougar and 92 are just barely not interchangeable. It seems that the only issue is the location of the mag catch slot in the magazine. You'd think if it's that close, they would have had the foresight to make them compatible.

I was pretty enthused about the 8000 until I discovered the mag incompatibility. I've got plenty of 92 mags and the thought of having to have yet another mag kinda dampened my enthusiasm.

I also read that article just other day - and I like the rotating barrel idea, and the price!!

I have enough 9mm's but sure would like to try that puppy out.

I checked one out at Tri-State Outfitters in Lewiston ID (~$350)

I like it... birthday is 2 weeks after Christmas, we'll have to see if I have funding approval.

BTW CDNN has them with 2 mags for $299.

    Link to Stoeger Website

Stoeger is mainly a manufacturer and importer of shotguns. Here is a link to the Stoeger website page announcing the Cougar pistol addition to their product line:

    Stoeger Cougar web page

They are showing a 9mm and a .40 caliber version of the pistol, with a list price of $370, which is pretty attractive. I guess when somebody hands you all the tooling and procedures for a pistol, you can make it for a low manufacturing cost.

Too bad it doesn't come in .45ACP

I don't see why they will not introduce a .45, the Beretta version is available in .45, 8045 IIRC. Maybe 9mm and 40 S&W to test the waters?

I don't know why either, but from what I understand, there's no plans to. I'm guessing it's available in 9mm and .40 because that's the two prevailing rounds in LE.

One write up in a gun rag and they raise the MSRP. It's now $370.

I read that a .45 version will likely be released in the future, I'd say it'll depend on how well the 9mm and .40cal sell.
