New Remington Model 51 Coming Soon!

Remington Announces New R-51 Pistol - The Firearm Blog

This is pretty stinking cool... or at least it has the potential to be.

It's a little odd looking, but it's a total makeover on the Pederson model 51.

    TL;DR:

    1. Remington (REMINGTON of all companies...) is jumping on the single-stack compact 9mm bandwagon.

    2. The gun has an internal hammer with a trigger pull said to be pretty much exactly like a 1911, single-action, straight back, short, crisp break.

    3. Aluminum frame, forged slide, detachable grip panels.

    4. Primary safety mechanism is a grip safety reminiscent of the original design or the Browning 1908.

    5. Weight 20 oz.; Width .96"; Length 6"; Height 4.5"; Barrel Length 3.4"; Capacity 7+1. A bit bigger than an M&P Shield.

    6. MSRP: $389. That's right. THREE HUNDRED EIGHTY-NINE DOLLARS IS MSRP.

I am pretty excited to see how this goes!

I'll have to break a lifetime of "never be the first or last to adopt new stuff" and get this one ASAP. That'll put me near the front of the line for Customer Service, anyway...

    Looks very, very interesting.

Light, short, slim, ergonomic, adjustable for larger/smaller hands, and available in reasonable calibers. Might be a winner, presuming reliability and durability is there.

    Thanks for the heads-up.

Here is a video of it... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WgqtnA4t98U

I just read about this gun this morning and came hear 1st to see if anyone has posted other info. I have to say it looks outstanding and it comes from a well known highly reputable
company. I can't wait to hold this gun and compare it to my M&P Shield.

I hope it works out for them. I've always liked Remington long guns.

Only 7+1? Now some people will have to carry 30 extra mags instead of their usual 20. I'll admit it's a pretty slick looking gun for those who can live with lower capacity.

A tad smaller than the S&W Shield, and about a 1/2in longer and taller than the Kahr PM9. Significantly larger than the Ruger LCP, but a good 1/2" shorter than the Walther PPK. Fairly slim and reasonably svelte in weight. Nice sizing. If it's ergonomic in the hand, mag swaps are easy (without pinching) and it's dead nuts reliable, it might do very well on the market. At MSRP of under $400, I'm betting it'll sell well. Hopefully Remington has done its homework on the reliability of the thing.

I can't say I've ever been a fan the big green R (with the exception of their "Nylon" .22's)...but I like the looks of this pistol.

And, finally a gun company has come out with an attractive pistol.

    I conjure I'll get one.

Of all the major, long-standing, firearm manufacturers Remington (IMHO) has earned & maintained a strong reputation for thoroughly vetting their new offerings prior to release. If they're jumping into the already-crowded, single stack, 9mm CCW market, I'll bet my gun money it'll be a winner. Yeah, I'll wait for more reviews. But the new Model 51 is absolutely on my watch list radar. Thanks for the post!

BTW, Remington has a facility in Hickory, Ky. as well.

    WAY cool!

Looks like the Shield may have some serious competition!

I REALLY like the way you can hear the grip safety deactivate at 1:17 in the video. There is nothing like pulling the trigger on a 1911 or XD and having nothing happen because you don't have the correct grip.

They even got the sloped and squared angles on the sights where they should be.

I love to see any new gun, especially one without a polymer frame. Ya'll work the bugs out, and I'll pick one up in a few years.

I'm going to go ahead and say this:

I think the specs on it look great, and that it has the potential, especially at the given price point, to secure a large amount of the Pocket 9 market.

But, I personally, think it is ugly.
