Primary carry Colt Lwt Cdr XSE

I thought I would post some pics of my primary carry pistol now. What I have done to it so far:

    Wilson Combat Beavertail
    Wilson Combat Tactical Thumb Safety
    S&A Mainspring Housing
    Ed Brown GI Guide Rod
EGW Angle Bore Carry Bevel Thick Bushing
EGW Solid Thick Guide Rod Plug
    Greider Short Trigger

I think that's it, I have done it all myself so far. Next is to dehorn and bobtail it and then hard chrome (the frame nickle then hard chrome). The dehorn and bobtail I plan on doing myself.

What do you guys think? Smooth bobtail msh for carry so it doesn't grab my shirt? Any suggestions?

Very nice. I really like my commander size 1911 for carry, and that gun sure looks good.

I like them a lot. I just got the EGW stuff and the thumb safety in today and fitted them. They have the monogrammed version, but I don't care enough about that to spend the extra dinero.

I like the lwt cdr so much I sold my officers. To me it's a great thickness, weight and overall size.

Did you really feel the need to do the above or did you do it just for the heck of it ?

I carry one and its really the only gun that I've never tinkered with because I thought it was good enough to tote straight out of the box.

BTW...I really do understand the need for tinkering....

It's an EXCELLENT gun out of the box hotguns, but.....

This Trigger (fits my short fingers better), beavertail (I hate the stock ducktail), thumb safety (the right side one is in the way for carry since I'm right handed), Guide rod (the flgr was a pain) and mainspring housing (1911 parts should NOT be plastic) were what I considered to be necessary. I already had the msh and beavertail that I got from a private seller.

The stock bushing was actually pretty good and not necessary to change. For 20.00 though an EGW is much tighter than any production gun bushing and a pretty cheap change.

Since I didn't have to pay anyone else to do it, it was actually all not very much. I plan on keeping this from here on out and 1911's are made to be tweaked, personalized.

To me doing this type of stuff is taking a gun they think you like and making it into what you really do like. Not everyone likes doing it though, so whatever trips ones trigger (pun intended).

I'm the guy that would buy a new 20,000.00 Harley and start changing stuff to customize it. Not that it wouldn't run good, but there's always ways to make it better.

I actually wouldn't pay 20,000.00 for one, I had a couple before they became yuppie mobiles, but I'm just using that for example. The ones I did have I personalized, customized.

So I guess I could have left all of that out and just said "Yea, I'm a tinkerer".

For the bobtail mainspring housing, have you looked at the "Snakeskin Bobtail" mainspring housing that Ed Brown sells? I don't think the pattern would grab your shirt like sharp checkering, but would give you some traction for your grip.

@Pistolwhipped Maybe even Mrs. Santa (if there is one)?:)

I bet you are right Pogo2. I have seen it before but, It didn't really register that it would have less "grabability" than the checkered. Not a bad idea at all.

I got the parts for the Bobtail in today so I went ahead and did it. Took a couple of hours. I also did a very mild de-horn, just breaking the sharpness. What do you guys think for my first bobtail? I went with the snakeskin because it doesn't grab as much as the checkered:

    Very, very nice.

I've got a scandium commander that I've thought about getting bobtailed.

IMO, I think the worst thing you can do to a 1911, as far as looks goes, is stick in a mag with a bumper pad on it. It just doesn't look right when the mag isn't nice and flush.
